The Taw and Torridge rivers pincer in on Bideford. Surfers escape to Croyde whilst ramblers share The Valley of the Rocks with the resident goats. The swathes of sand along the north Devon coast have to be some of the longest, widest beaches in the country, while the paths skirt the edge of Exmoor, where the moor plunges into the sea.
North Devon is very rural with only a few major towns considering the size of the area - Barnstaple, Great Torrington, Bideford and Ilfracombe. It is mainly beautiful pastoral countryside, but its Exmoor coast has the highest cliffs in the south of England, with the Great Hangman providing an excellent goal for hardcore walkers. The areas of coastline exposed to the Atlantic ensure excellent surfing conditions.
The main surfing centre encompasses the beaches of Bideford Bay including Woolacombe, Saunton, Westward Ho! and Croyde. So book a self catering holiday cottage in north Devon, anywhere between Holsworthy and Cullompton inland, or Hartland Point, Clovelly and Lynton and Lynmouth on the coast, and you will have the ideal base for surfers and walkers alike.
