Gaze out of the window of a north Devon sea view cottage at vast sandy expanses - the beaches here are big. The north coast is exposed to the Celtic sea with surfers flocking to the beaches at Woolacombe, Saunton and Westward Ho!. But don't forget the pretty little towns such as Lynton and Lynmouth for promenades and ice creams.
On the opposite side of the county, the South Hams cover everything below Dartmoor; a sea view of the south coast may be comparatively sedate, with quiet little coves and quaint little seaside towns such as Salcombe and Start Point on the English channel. But there's also the city of Plymouth with its location on the river mouth meeting the sea. Head to the old town, wander along Plymouth Hoe and pay your 20p to use a seascope (or is it 50p now?).

If you travel past Dartmouth, with its sailing charm, and head further east, you'll be into the English Riviera, with well-known holiday destinations such as Paignton and Torquay with their traditional beaches. Further along, the River Teign flows out to sea with the river mouth flanked by Shaldon, a delightfully upmarket area with cottages all along the waterside.
The River Exe joins the Cathedral City of Exeter to the sea and leads to the start of The Jurassic Coast, the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty before merging into Dorset, with Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Seaton dotted along the coast affording some incredible sea views.
