Stretching from the Tamar bridge in Plymouth across the bays of Bigbury, Start, Babbacombe and half of Lyme Bay, to Lyme Regis, south Devon has the ultimate seaside sweep of holiday resorts. Maritime towns and popular beaches range from Salcombe with its naturally sheltered harbour to the fishing port of Brixham built on steep hills. The towns of Torquay and Paignton are the principal seaside resorts.
Exmouth has a seafront facing Dawlish Warren, home to one of the only natural sand spits in the world, and is the start of the Jurassic Coast that runs from East Devon, along Dorset. This coastline is a UNESCO World Heritage site encompassing the towns of Budleigh Salterton, Branscombe, Beer and Seaton. Think pebbles, beach huts and deckchairs for traditional holidays beside the sea.
