Why do we love the south coast of Cornwall? The culture, the atmosphere, the food, but mainly to be beside the sea! The sea is a little bit warmer this side of the county, a little bit calmer, that bit more family friendly. And it makes for great gazing, even when the sun has hidden. Speaking of hidden, a sea view cottage in south Cornwall is a great base to seek out the Hidden Hut and other secret delights; quiet coves, benches with the best views, places to eat and things to do.
Settle yourself in Falmouth, a maritime town with the world's third deepest natural harbour. There's plenty of comings and goings on the waterways to watch from the comfort of your holiday cottage. You won't get bored in this town but for a day out, hop on a ferry and explore other areas. There's the King Harry chain link to drive over the river to St Mawes so you can spend time exploring the Roseland peninsula and its local beauty spots St Just in Roseland, Portscatho and St Anthony, all with stunning sea views.
Head east along this picturesque coastline to the tall shops of Mevagissey and have a cream tea on the harbourside. Stay in a sea view cottage in Fowey for a backdrop of blue or try out the views in Looe, home to one of the area's largest fishing fleets. There are lobster pots and fishermen's cottage a-plenty in this part of the world.
The Rame Peninsula caters for those who love Cornwall but don't want to drive quite so far. With Freathy Cliff, the Antony Estate and Mount Edgcumbe, Torpoint, and Kingsand looking over the water towards Plymouth Sound, there is more than enough for a happy holiday.
