Zip and linkPortscatho is a rather charming coastal village on the Roseland peninsula with gorgeous views over Gerrans Bay, easy access to the wonderful coast path and a vibrant centre with a selection of cafes, restaurants and independent shops. La Cabana is located just a short stroll away from the heart of the village and has stunning views over the bay from the front elevation and a delightful garden where you can sit and take in the sea views from dawn until dusk.
Situated on Gerrans Hill in an elevated position overlooking the village, entry to La Cabana is from the rear where you will find parking for one medium-sized car in front of the garage (home to the washing machine and tumble-drier). The rear garden with whitewashed walls and Mediterranean shrubs is down a short flight of steps with entry on ground floor level via the porch, with handy storage for coats, flipflops and wellies. Split-level and set over three floors, La Cabana is beautifully designed with stylish furniture, eclectic contemporary touches and overhead panel heating to keep you warm.
On entry level, the light and bright kitchen/diner on the ground floor is spacious and well-equipped, perfect for sociable dining with family and friends. A short flight of steps leads down to the lower ground floor, home to the spacious sitting-room with a warming wood-burner, making this the ideal year-round holiday home. Bedroom three on this floor is gorgeous with pretty furnishings and views over the garden towards the sea. This bedroom can be made as a twin or double, perfect for either children or adults. You will also find a stylish shower-room on this floor.
The first floor is home to two wonderful double bedrooms with wide windows to take in the panoramic views. Bedroom one has super-king size bed and an additional sofa for relaxing with a holiday read or enjoying morning coffee. Bedroom two has a king-size bed. The family bathroom on this floor has a fabulous free-standing three-quarter bath and a walk-in shower cubicle so you can choose either a long soak or a refreshing shower after a busy day exploring.
Access to the enclosed front garden is via patio doors from the sitting-room, where you will find a lawned area and patio with garden furniture and fire-pit, quite literally everything you will need for al fresco dining with sea views. Throughout the seasons the panoramic vista is mesmerising.
Portscatho is a wonderful Cornish fishing village, with a peaceful/laid back vibe and all the facilities you'll need. For freshly brewed coffee and pastries try Tide and Thyme, views don't get much better than this, or the ever-popular Boathouse cafe where you can enjoy freshly home cooked food made with local ingredients. At the heart of the local community is the Plume of Feathers, an 18th Century pub serving real ales and seasonal food or wander along the coast path to Porthcurnick beach and The Hidden Hut where guests sit side by side on wooden benches and enjoy the freshest seafood cooked outdoors (booking is essential for feast nights), The Hidden Hut also has an independent freehouse The Standard which is at the top of Gerrans Hill a short walk from La Cabana with an outdoor bar, south-facing garden and wood-fired grills so you really are spoilt for choice.
A holiday here could be spent just absorbing your surroundings and embracing the slower pace of life. If you choose to explore further afield, then why not pull on your walking boots and head out along the coast path, one of the best ways to explore the beautiful coastline, secluded coves and pretty villages. During summertime, kayaks and paddle boards can be hired from the harbourside, a great way to explore from the water.
A short car journey away, the vibrant village of St Mawes awaits with a good selection of eateries, if you are looking for something rather special head up towards the castle to the Hotel Tresanton, owned by Olga Polizzi, or if you are happy with fish and chips out of the paper then you can do that too, sitting on the sea wall. The seasonal passenger ferry can take you from here to the maritime town of Falmouth or lesser-known secluded spots such as Place, a photographer's dream.
However you plan to spend your precious holiday time, La Cabana is the ideal place for a family holiday or an out of season getaway.
