Classic Supports Mawgan Porth Surf Life Saving Club
In the newsThe beautiful village of Mawgan Porth lies on the dramatic North coast of Cornwall in a picturesque cove with acres of sandy beach. Mawgan Porth Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is one of Cornwall’s newest surf lifesaving clubs and as a registered charity is also an affiliated club of Surf Live Saving GB, a national charity dedicated to preventing drowning and enhance community safety through training and education.
Attracting over 80 members in just three years, Mawgan Porth SLSC was set up by a group of local volunteers to save lives, promote beach safety, provide lifeguard training and foster a safe, inclusive environment for the local community and visitors alike. Classic Cottages are delighted to support them with a practical donation of a training defibrillator and liveried windbreaks to help keep beachgoers safe.

The donated training defibrillator will enable the club to train the community on how to use the operational defib which is located outside the Merrymoor Inn close by. It is hoped the club will now be able to hold classes on the beach using the windbreaks to create an area for training whilst raising awareness and funds for the club.
Founder member Ian Greaves said: “Mawgan Porth is a stunning location but like any beach it comes with its potential dangers, including tides and currents. The club’s mission is to spread awareness and educate visitors on ways to improve their water safety.
“As we have qualified Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) and paramedic staff in the club, we want to offer training not only to club members but also to the local community, so they will have more confidence if they need to use a defibrillator. Thanks to the generosity of Classic Cottages, this is now possible.”
As plans for a beach clubhouse have now been approved, it is hoped that greater awareness will generate more donations to the club’s ongoing £40,000 crowdfunding campaign at https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/help-us-build-a-lifesaving-clubhouse.
The clubhouse will provide a permanent, safe base for surf lifesaving and lifeguard training, as well as storage for essential rescue and safety equipment.

Louise Dale, Area Manager for South Cornwall at Classic Cottages, said: “We are deeply grateful for the vital work of volunteers in surf lifesaving clubs across Cornwall, and we know our guests are too. That’s why we’re delighted to make a practical contribution to enhance the services Mawgan Porth SLSC is able to offer the community and visitors.”
