Classic donates to Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary on the Lizard Peninsula
In the newsBased near Ruan Minor on the Lizard Peninsula, Bolenowe Animal Charity cares for horses, ponies, donkeys, goats and pigs, many having suffered from historic cruelty, sickness or neglect. The far Southwest was hit badly in January by Storm Goretti which tore through their 30-acre site like a hurricane, destroying three field shelters, a stable for goats and fencing which was only installed last summer.
The charity relies entirely on public donations and fundraising, and is run by a small team of staff and volunteers. A public fundraising appeal was launched to support replacing storm-damaged structures and restoring safe shelter and Classic donated £500 towards the appeal, helping the charity move closer to its target to ensure the animals have the protection they need.

Compassionate animal lover Margaret Piper started rescuing animals at Jelbert Farm in Bolenowe in the 1960’s and, as the number of animals rescued started to out weigh funds, Bolenowe became a charity in 1987. After her death the sanctuary moved to its present home on the Lizard and her legacy continues to this day.

Louise Coad, Charity Administrator at Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary said “Storm Goretti swept through the sanctuary causing extensive damage to field shelters, some being completely destroyed by the high winds and rain. The shelters are vital in giving our rescued horses and ponies protection from the worst of the Cornish weather when they are out in the fields. As a small, self-funded charity, the cost of repair and replacement is significant, and we are very grateful to Classic Cottages for their generous support. Donations make a real difference to the animals in our care.

Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary does wonderful work providing a safe and loving home for rescued animals in Cornwall and we are delighted to contribute to the fund to replace and repair damaged shelters and hope this encourages others to get behind the sanctuary’s fundraising efforts.

Anyone wishing to support the appeal can donate via the GoFundMe page or via the charity’s website here. It also has a shop in Helston which helps fund its activities.
