Tucked away in the historic village of Mortehoe, semi-detached Barricane House is the perfect place to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy everything this spectacular coastline has to offer. Mortehoe is steeped in sea-shanty legends of shipwrecks and pirate smuggling and today it remains a wonderfully characterful village perched above some of the finest beaches in the south west. The South West Coast Path is on your doorstep, where you will find dramatic cliff-top walks, hidden coves, sweeping ocean views and moments of complete calm. Within a few minutes' drive you'll reach the golden sands of Morte Bay, a stunning three-mile stretch of beach shared by Woolacombe, Putsborough and Grunta - ideal for swimming, surfing, sandcastles and long family walks with your trusted four-legged friend.

Barricane House sits right in the heart of the village two local pubs, village post office and a charming bistro (perfect for an easy supper or a memorable meal out) right on your doorstep. You and your trusted four-legged family member will receive the warmest of welcomes here. Built in 1860 by the owner's great, great-grandfather, the house is full of character and history yet offers all the comforts you'd expect from a much-loved holiday home. From the rear bedroom and the games-room, at the top of the house, you'll catch glimpses of the sea - a reminder that it's never far away.

Inside, Barricane House is spacious, relaxed and made for family time. The sitting-room is perfect for unwinding together at the end of the day, whilst the dining-room invites long, laughter-filled meals. The kitchen has been refurbished in recent years and is well equipped with everything you need to whip up a family feast or a simple post-beach supper. Upstairs you'll find four comfortable bedrooms, traditionally styled and designed for restful nights. With the fresh sea air drifting in, you're sure to enjoy some of the best sleep you've had in a long while. Mornings are made easy as you have a family bathroom, shower-room and an en suite shower-room. As with many older houses, charm and character are everywhere, you'll find the bathroom on a split landing, so just take a little extra care as you pass through. One of the highlights of the house is the converted loft space; a brilliant hang-out for younger guests (or the young at heart). Climb the steep stairs to find table football, a TV and an older Xbox with a selection of games. The real showstopper, though, is the beautiful view of the sea that never fails to impress.

Beach days couldn't be easier. With some of the north Devon coast's finest beaches just minutes away, you're perfectly placed for surfing, rock pooling, coastal adventures, or simply soaking up the scenery. To help you make the most of your stay, the owners have kindly provided a selection of beach gear. Nearby, you'll find the sweeping golden sands of Woolacombe, regularly voted among the UK's best beaches, alongside the quieter, unspoilt coves of Rockham, Grunta and Barricane Beach, renowned for its seasonal Sri Lankan curry shack.

Whether you're drawn by the waves, dramatic coastal walks, abundant wildlife, or the simple pleasure of unwinding by the sea, Barricane House offers the perfect base to experience the very best of north Devon's coastline. Barricane House is more than just a place to stay - it's a welcoming coastal home where memories are made, stories are shared, and the rhythm of the sea sets the pace for your holiday.
