5 Winter well being spa days for honeymooners

While we’re all for a night in front of a crackling fire and Netflix, there’s something to be said for getting out and about once winter arrives. And one of the best ways to lure us out of our cosy nests? A spa day! From coastal retreats that’ll leave you revitalised to stunning spas set in historic woodlands, Cornwall is home to a huge range of suitable settings for getting pampered.

And while we’re down for any excuse to hit up our favourite spas, it’s a particularly nice activity to factor into an autumnal or wintery mini-moon or honeymoon. With that in mind, here are our some of our most beloved Cornish spas and their top treatments or packages for wooing the two of you.

St Michael’s Health Club & Spa, Falmouth

If you like your facilities large and lavish, be sure to check out the recently refurbished St Michael’s Health Club & Spa. The spa is home to the South West’s largest hydrotherapy pool (it has 21 massage stations!) and you’ll also find a Moroccan Rhassoul, herbal Finnish sauna and various experience showers and steam rooms. This spa also boasts the world’s only Cornish sea salt steam room.

There are plenty of delicious sounding treatments and packages to choose from and many of them make use of locally harvested ingredients like seaweed. Our choice? The Couples Spa Day which kicks off with a glass of fizz and a two-course lunch. After you’ve dined, it’s into the spa where you’ll have three hours of access. Afterwards, enjoy a Couple's Rhassoul together before wrapping up in the luxury couples’ room where you’ll each be treated to a 60-minute full body massage. C Bay Spa, Carbis Bay

Is the ocean calling? Perhaps a trip to the C Bay Spa in Carbis Bay near St Ives is on the cards for you two. The spa enjoys views over the hotel’s privately-owned Blue Flag Beach, should you fancy a little paddle before you head indoors to be pampered. Inside you’ll find the Ruinart bar – perfect for a pre-spa flute of Champagne – and the spa itself boasts a sauna pod, heated outdoor swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool and relaxation lounge.

Given it was recently awarded the national Best Spa for Romance award at the Good Spa Guide awards, we think it’s a fab choice for honeymooners. Speaking of which, we recommend the Sundowner Spa session – the most romantic and relaxing end to any day. You’ll enjoy a cocktail on arrival before heading into the spa to watch the day melt to dusk over St Ives.

The Scarlet Spa, Mawgan Porth

It’s all about reconnecting with your inner self at the adult-only, luxurious and eco-friendly Scarlet Spa. Quite unlike any other spa here you’ll find an outdoor freshwater pool filtered by reeds, clifftop hot tubs and a barrel cedar sauna with jaw-droppingly good sea views. Inside there’s an indoor pool, hanging canvas pods and a silent meditation room. Not to mention excellent views over Mawgan Porth Beach.

Our pick for loved up honeymooners? Rediscover: A Journey for Couples. This four-hour journey kick starts with a bathing ritual and is followed by a massage lesson or individual massage therapies. Then it’s time to chill out even more with a soak in the bath and a glass of champagne. (Image credit to The Scarlett Spa)Mawgan Porth Spa

Bedruthan Spa, Newquay

More stunning views over the Atlantic, Bedruthan has some seriously good facilities including a caldarium, eucalyptus steam room and cedar wood sauna. The indoor thermal spa pool is especially good and boasts far reaching views out to sea, the perfect spot for storm watching. There’s also a sensory spa garden on offer here which features everything from a detoxifying cold drench shower to a more restorative copper foot bath next to the fire pit.

We think honeymooners will be particularly enamoured with the Hammam Connect treatment. Hammam means ‘spread of warmth’ and that’s exactly what you’ll do as you relax and get messy together. Over the course of 45 minutes you’ll take turns giving each other a scrub and mud treatment on a heated marble bed and enjoy some winter warming heat therapy. Prepare to let your pores open and muscles relax. Ahh! (Image credit to Bedruthan Spa) Bedruthan Spa

The Clearing Spa, St Austell

Escape to the ancient woodland for some R&R at The Cornwall, a gorgeous 43-acre estate near St Austell. Home to The Clearing Spa, here you’ll find an infinity swimming pool, dry sauna, aromatherapy steam room and drench showers with gorgeous views out onto the walled garden.

For a proper wintery spa day, you can’t beat The Sunday Spa which includes a 25-minute massage or facial, use of the facilities, towel and robe and a two course Sunday lunch. A spa session and a roast dinner? Now that is the ultimate way to spend a Sunday on your winter honeymoon!
