Despite having a good sandy beach, a pretty harbour with bobbing fishing boats and a selection of places to eat, Portreath has escaped the commercial excesses of tourism. Popular with surfers, Portreath at high tide can be quite a spectacle with bodyboarders hurling themselves into the waves generated by the harbour wall, known locally as the ‘Vortex'. On bad weather days, the village is a great spot for storm watching. Less than two miles inland is Tehidy Country Park with 250 acres of woodland and trails.
