Known for its almost perfectly circular shape, Lulworth Cove is a must when visiting the Jurassic Coast. Water that evokes the Mediterranean more than the Channel and a sweeping pebble beach make for a beautiful escape – go out of season for a particularly peaceful visit.
Quite literally down the road is Durdle Door, another popular spot with awe-inspiring geology in the form of the eponymous door; a large, rocky arch perches over the water, making for some rather special photo opportunities. Take the South West Coast path from one to another for a gentle two and a half mile walk with some of the best views in the South West
Pop along to Lyme Regis and soak up the culture and history in the ‘Pearl of Dorset’. A popular and quintessential seaside town, Lyme Regis is far from gentrified, with a thriving community and plenty of its own long-standing customs.
Over the summer there are various carnivals and festivals, celebrating everything from fossils to food. Appearing in Jane Austen’s ‘Persuasion’ and John Fowles’ ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’, Lyme Regis has a literary scene and draws literature fans down to the coast.
