Porthleven Cottages
Situated in West Cornwall between Lizard Point (Britain's most southerly point) and Land's End, Porthleven faces directly into the Atlantic ocean, giving it a raw, rugged feel that a lot of the more sheltered harbours along the Cornish coast lack. With a warren of streets lined with classic Cornish granite cottages as well as deluxe apartments with uninterrupted sea views, find your own slice of heaven in one of our Porthleven cottages. Porthleven is one of Cornwall's hidden gems, less known than the likes of Padstow or St Ives, but well worth a visit. Porthleven's iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafes and restaurants cluster around the historic inner harbour, guarded by two cannons salvaged from the shipwrecked HMS Anson.
Summer in Porthleven brings the quintessential seaside holiday; a beach manned with lifeguards, al fresco dining and crabbing off the harbour. But out of season the town really comes into its own. With one of the best surf breaks in the country, you can get lost for hours watching the UK’s surfing elite putting on a display. But be warned, this surf spot is not for the beginners or part timers. If you feel the need to jump in and give it a go, we recommend Praa Sands or Poldhu Cove, near Mullion, which are only a few miles from our cottages in Porthleven.
One of the best spots in the UK for storm watching, Porthleven’s crashing waves are often used as a dramatic backdrop for weather forecasts.
Porthleven is a foodie’s delight with the annual food and music festival in April and some well respected up and coming restaurants and cafes. There are a few amazing fish shops and delis to buy quality fresh ingredients for a spot of self catering.
Keen walkers can leave the car at the cottage for your stay – the coast path stretches for hundreds of miles either side of the village. Head west to explore Rinsey Cove and beyond or set out South and stumble across Loe Bar and on to Church Cove. For a brisk walk inland, visit the nearest market town of Helston or a circular walk around Loe Bar.
