You can find boutique shopping along Watchbell Lane, perfect for some luxury retail therapy to treat yourself while on holiday. After wearing yourself out shopping, head to Quay Arts. The central hub for the growing arts scene in Newport. There’s a theatre, workshops to get involved in and a lovely little cafe. Explore the history of the island by visiting the remnants of the Newport Roman villa or taking a short trip out to Carisbrooke Castle for a day out with English Heritage.
Newport is a great spot to head out pretty much anywhere on the Isle of Wight. Around 10 minutes north of Newport you’ll find Cowes and East Cowes. Great for sailing enthusiasts, especially during Cowes Week, these towns are a hive of activity during the summer months and tend to be a little quieter in the winter. To the south is Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown with their traditional Victorian seaside experience. To the west you can explore the dog-friendly beaches of Seaview and Bembridge or go for a wander through the forests near Brading in the hopes of seeing a red squirrel.
