Best cottages in the UK for cosy season

It’s that time of year... Blankets are coming out, fires are being lit, and hot chocolate is being bought by the bucket. Oh yes, we are well and truly nestled in the ‘-ber’ months, so cosy season is here and we are beyond embracing it.

Is it the autumnal colours that shroud the UK in coppery hues? Perhaps it’s the chillier days that invite us to pull on our comfiest pjs and sink into the sofa with a good book and nowhere to be? Or, just maybe, it’s all the little things that make cosy season so wonderful. A pick n’ mix time of year when we get to fill our days and evenings with our favourite hygge-inspired things.

Sound like a little bit of you? Here are our favourite holiday cottages across the UK for a cosy season escape, whether you dream of stargazing from the bubbling depths of a hot tub or a breathtaking walk followed by a soul-warming pub stop.

Ellenhall

The beautiful wood-fired sauna at Ellenhall surrounded by woodland, perfect for cosy season steams

Battle, Sussex | Sleeps 8

Best for: Saunas and soaks

To say we’re obsessed with Ellenhall’s tree-lined sauna is an understatement. Wood-fired and totally toasty, cosy season is a whole lot cosier with a steam in this fabulous addition to a beautiful cottage - the claw-foot bathtub is rather special too. Woodlands wrap around Ellenhall, inviting you to explore winding paths with your furry best friend, admiring the autumnal leaves as you go, while the High Weald National Landscape sits on your doorstep and promises an array of wonderful trails to follow. Returning to the cottage, you’ll find a deeply cosy living room, complete with an inglenook fireplace, a wood-burner, and fabulous beamed ceilings.

Nestled in a lovely enclosed garden (dog owners rejoice), the hot tub sits beneath the wide open skies of Bodmin Moor, which boasts some of the best stargazing conditions in Cornwall. Inside, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to cosy corners in which to unwind. Choose between the oh-so-sinkable sofa in the games room - complete with a fire-warmed bar next door - the sleek sitting room with a wood burner, and the fabulous dining room, where a stone fireplace and large dining table paint the perfect picture of cosy getaways with friends and family.
