Constructed in1835 the original lighthouse was built to warn ships of the offshore Manacles Rocks and Black Rock. Over the years the lighting system has been upgraded and since 1987 has been unmanned and automated. It is not open to the public but is worth the walk around the headland to take a look and many scenes from 'Fraggle Rock' from the 1980's were filmed here.
