Delightful St Mawes has lots to offer when it comes to a West Country getaway, in fact if you are searching for a car-free location this could just be the ticket. There are plenty of choices when it comes to eating out, from fine dining to fish and chips out of the paper watching the boats bob from the seawall. The beach is a mere stone's throw away and water sports lovers should take their kayaks and paddle boards to the sheltered waters of the harbour and explore the coves and inlets nearby. Climb the hill to explore impressive St Mawes Castle, constructed in the 1500s, it stands guard overlooking the river Fal and is now beautifully kept by English Heritage. Walkers will be spoilt for choice with mile upon mile of coast path to explore and a ferry to take you over the water to Falmouth to explore further afield.
A short drive away, the pretty village of Portscatho is renowned for its unspoilt charm, beautiful beaches and eclectic shops. For your morning coffee and fresh pastries with a view try Tatams overlooking the bay towards Gull Rock and Tavola for all things Italian.
