Head close to the Cornwall border but stay in Devon by heading out on Hartland Point for views of the sea that surround you, popping in to Clovelly for wiggly cobbled streets that open into a view of the deep blue. Hop the converging river mouths at Appledore to Braunton and explore seaside nature reserves before nipping to the very north of North Devon at Ilfracombe and on into the Devon fringes of Exmoor. The coastline swings high and low in these parts so you can experience the dramatic cliff faces of this more rugged landscape as well as wander beachfronts.
