Top five Cornwall Christmas markets

Escape the chill whilst visiting Cornwall this festive season by meandering through the stalls and lights to pick out the perfect pieces to make your Christmas special. From the middle of November there are plenty of fairs and markets across the county offering up food, decorations and gifts. There are local evening craft fairs or huge weekend-long festivals for you to soak up the festive spirit whilst exploring the county’s wintery beauty.

Christmas day is always special but I love the build up to it. Finally whipping out the decorations again, adding some new additions to my bulging collection of baubles, finding the perfect gifts. Getting into the Christmas spirit keeps me happy as the weather turns colder. These are some of my favourite events in Cornwall to explore for a great day (or weekend!) out to get a little merry in celebration of the festive season.

Start your celebrations at the Eden Project’s Macmillan Christmas Fair on the 16th November. With 15% of all stall takings going to Macmillan, you can shop until you drop knowing that you’ll be helping others whilst choosing gifts for your loved ones (and maybe a couple for yourself, too). There’ll be stalls from Buttermilk Fudge, Cream Cornwall and St Austell Brewery amongst others. Why not gather together your favourite goodies and make a Cornish hamper for a south-west-obsessed friend?

From the 4th to 5th November, join the National Trust for their annual Christmas craft fair at Cotehele house in north Cornwall. This festive extravaganza is flooded with local crafters, makers and producers selling unique handmade goodies. A great opportunity to start thinking about your Christmas gift list and pick up some extra special stocking fillers.

Celebrate the start of December with the annual Christmas extravaganza in Padstow. The Padstow Christmas festival is four days of festivities from 7th to 10th December. Current planned events include Christmas cooking demonstrations, a Santa Fun Run and a huge Christmas market. Don’t miss out on the spectacular firework show over the harbour on the Friday night. Make the most of the festival and stay in Padstow for the weekend.

For a truly Cornish Christmas experience, visit the Trereife Christmas fair. Spread across two days, this market promises to bring you all the Christmas goodies from across Cornwall. Set in the beautiful grounds of Trereife House under cover of heated marquees, you’ll enjoy browsing the various stalls. There are plenty of locally grown and hand-crafted bits to take home ready for gifting to your loved ones on Christmas day.

With a focus on exceptional food, the Fowey Christmas Market from 24th to 25th November promises to bring a seasoned mix of exhibitors to choose from. Several markets will be held across the town with plenty of festive entertainment put on throughout the weekend. Enjoy the pretty town of Fowey at the best time of year whilst gathering up some tasty Cornish goodies to remind you of your visit.
