Sheltering under a canopy of oak foliage, this former boathouse rests at the water's edge on the tranquil banks of the Helford River. It has been lovingly yet sympathetically restored by the owners to an exceptionally high standard, using only Cornish trade and resources. Everything has been thoughtfully and carefully chosen, and the result is the epitome of escapism.

Giving a nod to its former life you will need to ascend 11 steps to be rewarded by this beautiful abode. Entering inside you will be welcomed to a light and airy space, the Velux windows in the ceiling give glimpses of the towering oaks and foliage above creating an illusion that you are tucked away in the treetops, a true hideaway!

To the left you will find the sleeping quarters and to the right you will find the main reception rooms. The kitchen is brand new, spacious, and well-equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable stay. Descend a couple of steps into the dining and sitting-room where there is plenty of space for a delicious holiday supper with your loved ones. There are estuary views from every window, and you will be sharing the creek with resident birds who like to come out at low tide. This part of the river dries at low tide to reveal large areas of mud flat - an ideal feeding ground for numerous birds like herons, greenshanks, cormorants and even kingfishers.

There is a fabulous and aesthetical seating area made outstandingly attractive by the stunning stonework and wood-burner, ideal for snuggling up at the end of a long day of exploring the creeks of the Helford and the ancient woodland that sweep the shores.

Outside there is a stunning balcony where you can sit and enjoy your morning coffee amongst nature or perhaps an evening apéritif. Being at the water's edge you have direct access to the river should you choose to indulge in a swim but make sure to keep an eye on the tide times! There is a quay adjacent to The Boathouse which is available for public use and is a great spot for a picnic or just simply watching the world go by.

An unparalleled location on The Helford, one of the very few places in the UK where oaks line the water's edge you will be residing on the edge of a little creek, you may not need your car to explore this ancient paradise.

A ten-minute walk, or a two-minute drive you will find the iconic Gear Farm Pasty Company, voted number one pasty, ever! They also do fantastic gourmet sausage rolls, bacon bites, daily cakes and a lovely honesty vegetable cart, fresh, organic and with zero food miles.

Upriver a little, you will be spoilt with captivating walks through ancient woodlands, our favourite is to Tremayne Quay, which was built in 1846 to receive the Royal Yacht, a flat clearing and a wonderful spot for a picnic. Merthen wood, where the trees touch the water is an example of ancient, coppiced oak woodland and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is one of the largest remaining oak woodlands in Cornwall and although there is no public access, it can be viewed and enjoyed from Tremayne Quay.
