KingOh my goodness, The Aval Loft is simply gorgeous! Nestled in the heart of the countryside with the most lush and awe inspiring views stretching out across rolling pastures, ancient woodland and dramatic Dartmoor in the distance, this luxury retreat is the perfect excuse for solo escapes, romantic breaks for two and your loyal pup is most welcome too. Wake up to the morning bird song, spend sunny days relaxing on the loungers interrupted only for a spot of lunch and evenings star-gazing at the celestial displays overhead, at this ultimate blissful 'escape to the country'.
From its humble origins as an apple store (Aval being Cornish for apple) the owners have left no stone unturned in creating luxury boutique style interiors to ensure you have the most indulgent of stays. Step over the threshold and the stresses and strains of everyday life will disappear in an instant. The stylish 'want for nothing' kitchen is a dream for any wannabe MasterChef, with meals served up on the breakfast-bar at the end of the kitchen island, also an ideal place for someone to perch if you believe that too many cooks can spoil the broth! The sitting-area has plenty of space to relax whether cosying up for a film night (there's a full Sky Q package to keep you entertained), snuggled up with a good book in front of the wood-burner or simply admiring the view.
You would not think it could get any better, but when it's time for bed the bedroom is stunning with a bed that is dressed to impress and so super comfy you won't want to get up and an en suite bath and shower room to match - it's quite a sanctuary.
The living accommodation is on the first floor to make the most of the views and can be entered by exterior steps but there's also a door to the ground floor bedroom which saves you having to lumber your bags and cases up and down the stairs - how convenient is that!
Outside, the terrace takes pride of place for you to enjoy the views with a table for relaxing meals in the sunshine and the most fabulous loungers that provide the perfect excuse to simply lie back and do absolutely nothing.
Nestled at the end of a private drive, the friendly owners are sometimes on site staying in their 16th Century home, on hand should you have any queries but leaving you to enjoy your break in peace and privacy.
Set in the tiny hamlet of Lidwell close to the River Tamar and the border between Cornwall and Devon, this is a great base for days out in both counties. You are spoilt for choice with fabulous walks, National Trust properties, open gardens, country pubs and restaurants, and a whole host of activities.
Discover wooded valley and riverside walks in the beautiful Tamar Valley, also an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and why not hire a canoe or kayak to have some fun along the river. The historic house and gardens at Cotehele (National Trust) are quite splendid and a quick trip over the border into Devon will take you to the ancient stannary town of Tavistock, and the gateway to majestic Dartmoor, so don't forget your walking boots.
For a good walk ruined the championship course at St Mellion will test even the lowest of handicaps or you might prefer to head to the coast to walk the coastal footpath or along the golden sands at beautiful Whitsand Bay.
After all the exercise you'll need to refuel and the nearby riverside pub at Horsebridge is popular with locals and visitors alike as is the award-winning Springer Spaniel but no trip to Cornwall would be complete without a yummy cream tea and the ones served up at Pentillie Castle are highly recommended but jam first if you don't mind.
