DoubleTucked away in the peaceful hamlet of Lamorna, surrounded by lush countryside and enchanting gardens, Grade II Llisted Clapper Mill is a truly remarkable retreat where history meets luxury to make this an enviable holiday home for eight guests.
Believed to date back to the 16th Century this beautiful historic old Cornish mill has been lovingly restored to an exceptional standard, every corner considered and retaining its soul and charm whilst ensuring comfort and modern living for both the owners and their guests. From the moment you step inside, this home captivates you with exposed beams, granite stonework and charming cottage windows. The building's rich heritage remains intact whilst the contemporary touches create a welcoming escape.
At the heart of this home is a magnificent kitchen and dining space, beautifully designed with elegant marble worktops and finished to a very high standard. Here, the original workings of the mill remain proudly on display (please do not touch or allow children to climb), offering a fascinating glimpse into the property's past and showcasing a unique feature that sets this home apart.
Upstairs above the kitchen, the first of two staircases in the property leads to a vast sitting-room, exposed beams and a huge wood-burner creates warmth and atmosphere, with stunning garden views form the windows. A door leads to a sun-drenched terrace that wraps around the house beside the original mill wheel, with seating areas overlooking the breathtaking garden and the leat that winds its way through the garden, bespoke railings blend into the setting.
Guests sleep comfortably across four bedrooms. The first is on the ground floor accessed through the cosy snug at the bottom of the second staircase. This charming bedroom has its own dressing-room that leads to the garden and boasts a luxurious super-king 'zip and link' bed. Conveniently positioned close by are both the utility-room and a stylish small shower-room making this suite ideal for those preferring to sleep on the ground floor.
Head upstairs for three further beautifully styled bedrooms. Wake up to birdsong in the first, a welcoming king-size 'zip and link' overlooking the mature grounds. The second a further flexible king-size 'zip and link' with its own en suite shower-room and the last a cosy double tucked under original beams and cosily accessed from just the one side. Completing the home is a newly renovated family bathroom with overhead shower and contemporary finishes.
Outside the magic really happens, the grounds have been carefully landscaped and are both private and tranquil with hidden corners to discover and a hot tub perfectly positioned beneath the stars.
The garden is to be savoured: as you sit on the stone bench looking across the lawn, the view is constantly changing as clouds pass and sunspots move. From the breakfast patio above the wheel, you have a completely different view and can appreciate the colours and form of the mature trees. Open spaces and secluded spots...something for every mood and weather.
No matter what the season there's something of interest and beauty to be seen ...mahonia blossoms with their fragrant yellow flowers in the middle of winter, the profusion of apple blossom in springtime, and roses and peonies carry us through into the autumn when the acer trees flame in their crimson finery.
Secret pathways, hidden steps, bridges, and gates give the garden a fairytale feel. For the bird watchers there are buzzards, kites, woodpeckers, mistle thrushes, jays, tits, finches and the resident robin who has been known to venture indoors to beg for food. Damselflies dance over the stream, badgers and foxes visit at night, squirrels chase and scamper in the trees. A constant trickle from the stream creates a soothing soundtrack, adding to the magical calm that surrounds this very special spot in west Cornwall.
Please be aware that the property is set within extensive grounds with a number of steps as well as a leat running through the garden, therefore this lovely home is not suitable for children under five although babes in arms are welcome.
Lamorna Cove is just a short drive, or an energising walk, start your mornings with an invigorating sea dip. Lazy lunches can be enjoyed at the much-loved pottery cafe soaking up the artistic spirit. The local pub, the Lamorna Wink, offers local dishes for family suppers. Nearby the bustling town of Newlyn invites you to wander its cosy harbourfront and enjoy some of the freshest seafood that Cornwall has to offer. Along the coast marvel at the beauty of St Michael's Mount, one of Cornwall's most iconic and photographed landmarks, before enjoying tea and sea views along the elegant promenade in Penzance. Clapper Mill is perfectly positioned to appreciate all that this beautiful part of the county has to offer.
