DoubleStep back in time at Higher Trennal Farm, an historic Cornish home dating back to 1740. Once known as Trenwall, this characterful farmhouse has been lovingly rebuilt and restored over the years to now welcome up to eight guests, whilst retaining many of its original features.
Once a working farmstead where pigs were kept in what is now the utility-room and where apple orchards thrived in the garden, the house still whispers from its past. One former owner famously sold her apples to the local miners, halving the fruit if it weighed too heavy on the scales!
The original front door protects the history within. Once inside the property you are wrapped in a warm welcome as this home is full of charm and character. You'll find a huge entrance hall with Victorian tiles showcasing their geometric patterns, a dining-room that houses a striking ornamental fireplace and a sitting-room with original window seats, warmed by the central wood-burner. The heart of the home is the kitchen with bespoke ceramic tiles on the wall crafted by the current owner, blending tradition with modern comfort with a large range as well as new appliances.
The utility-room doubles as a games-area featuring a small pool table and is a huge space for children to play whilst others in the party can sit back and relax. There is a ground floor shower-room for convenience, and the existing conservatory is used as a boot-room where you can leave sandy shoes and dry wetsuits after a day's surfing.
Two staircases lead to the first floor where you will find four beautifully appointed bedrooms, all with leafy views over the stunning gardens. First is a super-king 'zip and link', this cosy bedroom has an en suite shower-room. There's also a spacious king-size, a sweet double and the last is a charming bunk bedroom, ideal for little ones. A family bathroom with bath and overhead shower completes the layout in this quintessential countryside home. The house is adorned with original pottery made by the artistic owners, every corner showcasing a unique piece.
Outside the home sits in tiered gardens shaded by mature trees with apple and fig trees still flourishing. Dine outside on the terrace, which is accessed from the kitchen, or enjoy a feast in the garden listening to the nature surrounding you.
There are two outbuildings; one converted to a games-room with table-tennis and a dartboard, whilst the second, formerly the original outside WC, is watched over by a huge ceramic cockerel, again the works of the talented creative owner.
Tucked away down a private, unmade lane the house has ample parking, seclusion and countryside views. It is a true haven for families, friends and four-legged companions as two dogs are warmly welcomed.
The friendly but unobtrusive owners live in a nearby property on the same site, but this is not attached to Higher Trennal Farm.
Please supervise small children at all times as there are two ponds in the grounds, one fenced off and the second is on the owners' adjoining ground. There are stone steps leading from the upper tier to the lower tier in the garden, please take care.
The local area will not disappoint, the village of Germoe has a beautiful Grade I Listed Church dating back to the 12th Century. Dedicated to St Germoe, an early Celtic saint, it has been lovingly preserved and still holds much of its medieval character.
The long stretches of golden sand and waves of the Atlantic Ocean are just a short drive away at Praa Sands. You have come this far and the west of Cornwall has so much to offer. From the property, visit St Michael's Mount and cross the causeway following footsteps of ancient monks, swim at nearby Prussia Cove, or take a dip in the Art Deco Jubilee Pool in Penzance.
The area is full of excellent walking opportunities too, following the South West Coast Path, pack a picnic and enjoy the view of the horizon and clear waters below.
