JORO, Sheffield

One Michelin Star
01146 980627
Main Road, Wharncliffe Side, Sheffield S35 0LB
jororestaurant.co.uk
Having converted a derelict, 19th-century paper mill into the esteemed restaurant we know and love today, JÖRO is an inspiring spot to indulge in a Michelin-star meal in Yorkshire. The setting evokes a sense of cosy calm, with stone walls contrasting playfully with the modern kitchen that sits on display for all to see. There’s no dress code here, ensuring everyone can enjoy a fine dining experience without the pretence.
There are multiple choices when it comes to eating here, with the main restaurant offering a relaxed place to enjoy your meal, while the bar and terrace open Wednesdays to Sundays for flowing drinks, buttery pastries, and a BBQ and bar snacks menu that’s sure to have your mouth watering from the start. The signature tasting menu is a carefully curated journey through world flavours crafted using only the best local ingredients. Think Japanese milk bread with Ampersand butter, salt-aged Yorkshire beef with chicken of the woods tamari, and clementine and blackcurrant wood tartlette to finish things off with the sweetest of treats.
A mid-week menu offers a refined menu, inviting you to indulge even when time is short, while Sundays promise a smorgasbord of favourites, including beef fat confit carrots, 30-ingredient gravy, and seasonal greens with butter and Kampot pepper. You can even add smoked brisket or black truffle to your Yorkshire puddings as an optional extra. Most of the menus here are also available with vegetarian and pescatarian options, ensuring everyone will find something to catch their eye and satisfy the soul.
FIFTY TWO, Harrogate

One Michelin Star
01423 871350
Rudding Lane, Harrogate HG3 1JH
fiftytworuddingpark.co.uk
At Yorkshire’s fabulous Michelin Star restaurant, FIFTY TWO, the food isn’t just the main event; it’s the entire stage by which they enlighten and entertain. Arriving to a delicious drink on the terrace, and perhaps even a tour of the kitchen garden (which grows over 500 edible plants using organic and no-dig methods) if the weather allows, every moment harks back to the most treasured of events, dinner with friends. There’s no browsing menus here, as the sample menu invites you to trust in your hosts and, in return, rewards you with a six or 10-course meal you’ll think about for eternity (we’re only exaggerating a little, we promise).
The atmosphere is relaxed and surprisingly hands-on if you want it to be. Don an apron to see how things are made in the kitchen, grab one of the packs of cards that are kept to hand for a game of rummy while you wait, or add your favourite tunes to the ‘dessert’ island discs playlist, which makes up the background sounds for the evening. These fun extras, when paired with the theatrical nature of the open kitchen, make for a truly unique foodie experience, with the chefs and staff ensuring everyone is engaged and having the time of their lives.
The menu is made up of seasonal ingredients taken from the garden outside and local suppliers, keeping things varied and oh-so-return-worthy. Think beetroot croustade layered with salt-baked pickled beetroot and whipped duck liver parfait, chalk-stream trout with freshly picked herbs and buttermilk, and a toothsome custard tart with Alpine strawberries and lemon verbena.
Mýse, Hovingham
