Bunk-bedsPerfectly positioned on the seafront overlooking the sandy shores of Portmellon beach close to Mevagissey in south west Cornwall, Beach House is a duplex apartment located in a gorgeous former fisherman’s cottage. Beautifully furnished and styled with touches of glamour, it’s ideal for a romantic escape or a family holiday. Set in a row of pretty blue and white traditional cottages, there are wonderful views from the front elevation across the bay and beyond.
This enchanting apartment has been lovingly crafted, and this is evident from the moment you arrive. The ground floor has a charming sitting-room with large windows looking out to sea and a cosy corner sofa for snuggling up in front of the warming wood-burner in cooler months. The Smart TV is perfect for a quiet night in after a busy day out adventuring.
To the rear, the kitchen/diner is oh so stylish with a beautifully designed kitchen-area and light filled dining space thanks to the glass panelled roof. The perfect space for light lunches and elegant dinners! The kitchen has all the equipment you will need to cook a holiday meal and, of course a dishwasher because who wants to spend time at the sink when there are adventures to be had?
Upstairs the main bedroom sits to the front with a super-king size bed and beautiful furnishings in blue hues to match the seascape views from the window; imagine waking to the sound of the waves! The family bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower so you can choose either a refreshing shower or a long soak after a beach day. The bunk bedroom is such a sweet space; children will love spending time in this delightful room with its custom-made 'tongue and groove' ships' cabin built-in bunks and a TV. From this room young guests can watch the boat builders in Mitchell’s Boatyard who once built boats for the late Queen and Princess Margaret.
Outside, to the front a large, private slate patio awaits with a table and chairs. Holidays are made for al fresco dining, and this spot is simply perfect for watching the tide ebb and flow, reading a book in the sunshine or watching the Cornish boat builders at work next door. The top floor of Beach House is a separate apartment with its own access.
Portmellon is a charming village with a sheltered sandy cove at low tide (ideal for swimming) and a slipway which is great if you are launching kayaks and paddleboards to explore nearby coves. These can be hired locally from The Paddle Shed next door. Along the seafront you will find a beachside cafe for daytime snacks and traditional 17th Century pub, The Rising Sun (ideal if the chef wants a night off).
Located in a National Landscape (formerly known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) walkers can enjoy spectacular cliff-top walks along the South West Coast Path, which passes through the village. In just 15 minutes you can reach Chapel Point where seals can be regularly seen, and just a ten-minute stroll away is the bustling, picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey with a good selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. A seasonal passenger ferry runs from the harbourside here to the pretty town of Fowey, great for a day out walking and exploring. Or perhaps book a fishing trip out into the blue yonder, there are several charters and tours to choose from.
For a change of scene, the beaches of Pentewan, Polstreath and Gorran Haven are a walk away along the coast path with the most stunning views along the way. Further afield the Eden Project with its mighty biomes makes for an interesting day out, or The Lost Gardens of Heligan, lost in time since WWI and now Europe’s largest restoration project, with over 200 acres of gardens and wildlife to discover.
Whether you plan your spend your blissful getaway just enjoying your seaside escape or explore all Cornwall has to offer, Beach House is a fabulous place for a getaway throughout the year.
