For lovers of picture-perfect traditional cottages, look no further than this thatched beauty in the heart of Croyde on the north Devonshire coast. Sleeping eight lucky people, you'll find spacious, characterful interiors and a spectacular garden with a bubbling hot tub - bliss!
This oh-so-pretty cottage is famous in the village of Croyde and it's clear to see why - with climbing wisteria trailing over the whitewashed walls and lavender-lined gardens, it's a dream. Step into this pet-free retreat and you'll find it equally stunning on the inside, with warm wooden floors throughout, neutral colours and original features. There's plenty of space for everyone in the living areas, while upstairs there are four beautiful bedrooms, three en suite. To the back lies a south-facing garden, complete with neat lawns, a summer-house, and the piece de resistance, a bubbling hot tub.
On arrival, walk through the entrance hall into the spacious living, dining and kitchen area. First up is the sitting-room, complete with cosy wood-burner, perfect after a blustery coastal walk. There's plenty of plush sofas to sprawl on, with a Smart TV for film nights. If younger ones are into gaming, there's a PlayStation 3 to keep them entertained. From here, you turn right into the dining-area where the table, which can be extended to seat up to ten, awaits for memorable mealtimes. During warmer weather, you can open the adjacent French doors to let the breeze and the sound of birdsong float through. Next to this, the modern galley-style kitchen, complete with large range style cooker, electric double ovens, gas hob, dishwasher, American-style fridge/freezer, Nespresso coffee machine and all the equipment needed to rustle up delicious feasts. There's also a utility-room with a washing machine and WC. In addition, across the entrance hall, is a quiet reading nook with sofas and a desk.
Upstairs, you'll find all of the bedrooms. The principal bedroom is accessed via its own private staircase situated in the dining-area, at the top of which you'll find a king-sized bed, tranquil views of the garden and en suite bathroom (also accessed from bedroom four) with shower and free-standing bath. The rest of the bedrooms are accessed via the main stairs, a twin, an additional twin room having use of the family bathroom with handheld shower and a fourth bedroom with king-sized bed and en suite shower-room.
Famed for having one of the best gardens in the village, Sweets Cottage is surrounded by lush, mature gardens with the majority of it to the back of the house. South-facing, there's lots of grounds for children to explore, with a sloping lawn perfect for games. For meals al fresco, there's a sunny paved terrace accessed from the kitchen/dining area with table, chairs and a coal barbecue. A few steps up lead to the bubbling hot tub, made for relaxing muscles after coastal walks and days on the beach. From there, the lawn leads up to a summer-house terrace, the perfect spot for sunsets with a sundowner in hand. The front garden has a babbling stream running through it, with a gated bridge to cross before heading into the village and beach. In addition, there's parking for three to four vehicles.
Sweets Cottage is nestled in the heart of the seaside village of Croyde, which lies on the north coast of Devon. It's just a short walk down to the beach, considered to be the surfing capital of the area, and you can hire equipment and arrange lessons easily from here. Flanked by Saunton Sands and Woolacombe Sands, both of which top polls of Britain's best beaches, you're spoilt for choice when you want a beach day. Alternatively, head to the South West Coast Path for clifftop walks, watching out for seals and birdlife as you go, while a stomp up to Baggy Point offers exhilarating views. Afterwards, head back into Croyde for a bite to eat, savouring the best locally-sourced, seasonal produce.
