Lovely little town
We loved our walk around the town and people we met were so friendly. The amenities were second to none with an excellent range of supermarkets and a great leisure pool

A lovely place to visit.
We’ve just had a very pleasant few hours at Forde Abbey on a scorching hot day. The house is very interesting to walk around and the gardens are beautiful, it’s worth waiting to see the fountain, especially if you stand downwind of it on such a hot day.
The ginger cake in the cafe was a great way to end our visit.

A place to unwind
We visited these delightful gardens as part of a circular walk from Thorncombe village. It was the perfect place for a leisurely lunch followed by a stroll around the gardens before continuing on our way. The highlight of the day.

Well worth a visit
We really loved the gardens and the interior. It was the highlight of our week. We spent several hours there and felt there was plenty to see both in the house and gardens. The tearoom provides excellent lunches for those who want to make a day of it.

Stately home and splendid gardens
Fascinating former abbey dating back to 12thC. One of the greatest Westcountry gardens (according to Alan Titchmarsh), plant sales and a good restaurant serving really local food from the estate. A good day's outing.
A traditional village pub with warming real fires in winter and a beer garden for the summer months. Here you'll find a varied menu, excellently cooked and beautifully presented. There's a good wine choice and service is friendly and efficient. You'll also find a skittle alley for family entertainment. The pub has limited opening times so you may wish to check with them before planning a visit. Bookings are advisable particularly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Basic village pub
We were disappointed as we thought from previous reviews that this would be a saviour but the food was of lower standards to our expectations. We left most of it.

Meal at the Hare and Hound
We had a tasty meal here on a Monday night (when many other pubs and restaurants are closed) Ordered a homemade vegetarian curry which was delicious, and good quality ham egg and chips. Topped off with local beer this was a great supper. The setting is rural with amazing views from the garden. The pub, with its friendly landlord, is compact so worth booking a table

Excellent pub food and congenial hosts
We enjoying two visits to the Hare and Hounds during our recent holiday. Both times we had excellent pub meals in good surroundings and was well looked after by the hosts. Many thanks

Cider convert
I don't usually like cider but Perry's is so tasty I bought some to bring home as well! We had a summer afternoon in the orchard with cider and pizza. The farm shop is great and everyone working there is really friendly.

I bought a barrel...
A tiny Somerset hamlet called Dowlish Wake is home to this traditional cider making centre. Tempting samples from the barrels are a must before you decide on which variety to take home. I am afraid it had to be a gallon for us and even more unfortunate – it is within easy reach of home for return trips to refill the container ! There is a shop, café and all things apple making museum here too. This place feels like a step back in time, even down to crossing the ford from the orchard parking area !
A traditional country pub offering a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Food is locally sourced and Sunday lunch is very popular. In summer, dine alfresco and enjoy the views from the raised terrace and beer garden.

Amazing Sunday Roast
We came here for Sunday lunch which was the best roast I’ve had in a while! Great portion, good quality meat and a lovely selection of vegetables. Staff were really friendly from the start when we booked over the phone until it was sadly time to leave.
A dog friendly pub In the middle of no where but well worth the drive. Would highly recommend.

Fabulous Sunday lunch, also good mid week menu. Food is locally sourced where possible, but this is very popular place to eat so best to book, for Sunday lunch you would definitely need to. Nice staff and atmosphere too.
