As soon as you step through the doors, you will be truly impressed with the stunning interior. Light the cosy wood-burner and sink back into the comfy sofa or to truly indulge, relax into the sumptuous king-size bed and its beautiful soft linen. A special feature is the TV that is built into the bed and can be fully rotated, so you can either choose to have lazy mornings watching it in bed or use the fob to swivel it around to face the sofa without moving a muscle! Cooking up romantic meals will be a pleasure in the excellently equipped and stylish kitchen that has everything you could need, including a Nespresso coffee machine. The hut is completed with a very stylish shower-room that is spacious and feels as though it could be straight out of a boutique hotel.
What adds to making The Whistle such a special place is the outside area you have to enjoy. Just a few steps from the shepherd's hut you will find a wood-fired hot tub, positioned in a way that is totally secluded. There is also an outside shower, perfect for freshening up after a dip in the tub. A fabulous extra feature of The Whistle is a DeliVita pizza oven that cooks crispy based pizzas in just 90 seconds, what a dream! This, combined with a barbecue, means you can enjoy al fresco cooking and dining to your heart's content.
A thoughtfully created secret seating area, nestled into a hazel hedge, has been made just for you and there are glorious countryside views to marvel at. An evening here with a glass of fizz in hand, enjoying the last of the evening sun will be a holiday memory to treasure. There will be nothing to disturb you in this idyll except your friendly sheep neighbours who are sure to remind you of the rural setting.
The owners have truly put their heart and souls into ensuring every last detail has been thought of at this outstanding hideaway. They live on site, close by if you need them but you are assured of your privacy. By prior arrangement (for an additional cost and with 48 hours notice), the owners are able to provide you with pizza dough and barbecue packs of delicious local produce - what a treat!
Should you wish to venture from The Whistle then you will find yourself in a beautiful part of south Somerset, with its rolling countryside, woodland walks and chocolate box villages. The hamlet of Allowenshay is very pretty and you can walk from here to the local dog-friendly pub, Dinnington Docks. The larger towns nearby are Ilminster and Crewkerne, which both have attractive architecture and a number of different shops and cafes. As well as beautiful countryside, this area is also home to some fabulous National Trust properties, including Barrington Court and Montacute House.
Slightly further afield but still within easy reach are the Somerset Levels, fantastic for cycling, walking and wildlife watching. The Whistle is in a great position for visiting the neighbouring county of Dorset too and your trip wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Jurassic Coast. Head to West Bay for fish and chips at the harbour or for more sophistication, visit Lyme Regis which has a number of excellent restaurants.
