Railway Cottage offers a truly unique experience. Positioned at the end of the platform you can almost teleport yourself back to an era long forgotten and if you listen hard enough, you can imagine the hustle and bustle of a working railway. There really is something magical about the place from original signage to restored carriages, and not forgetting the splendour of the engines. The owners also run the Launceston Steam Railway, and this means you can also take a free train ride along the glorious Kensey Valley, stopping off at New Mills Farm Park. This really is a cottage with a difference and will be one to remember for years to come.

Railway Cottage still retains many of the original features and offers a lovely holiday for a family of four or just a couple. The sitting-room benefits from an electric fire for those chilly nights, there are two doors - one that leads to the courtyard garden overlooking the platform, and the other leading to the well-equipped kitchen. This is another room that has a unique charm with restored stained glass windows that frame yet another view of the platform, and the railway line leading away. Both the bathroom and the cloakroom are located on the ground floor, with the bedrooms being accessed via a steep cottage staircase with a handrail.

To the side of the cottage there is a secure outhouse that can be used to store your bikes, walking boots or beach equipment.

Railway Cottage is the perfect base for exploring further afield or perhaps explore the town by foot and make your way to Launceston Castle. You would never guess that the cottage is so close to the town centre, meaning that the pub and shops are just a stroll away.

Launceston is a town steeped in history with a castle dating back to Norman times. The town offers a good selection of shops as well as an excellent choice of restaurants, pubs and tea rooms. If textiles and quilting are more your thing, you can head off to the renowned Cowslip Workshops - where there is also a delightful teashop and cafe, so you can refuel for the walk back again!

There are great countryside walks right on the doorstep and, further afield, the wild rugged landscapes of Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor are a walker's paradise. Grand designs of bygone days and beautiful gardens are aplenty with Cotehele, Castle Drogo and Lanhydrock House to name but a few, and the coasts beckon with surfers riding the waves at Bude, Widemouth Bay and Polzeath on the north and maritime history galore at Charlestown and Plymouth on the south.

Launceston and Railway Cottage offer a unique self-catering experience with owners that go the extra mile to make the cottage and your holiday memorable.
