Guests can also stroll and picnic in the magical woodland here, with mown paths, open meadow and wonderful valley views.
Your have your own driveway through a stunning meadow and there is private parking at the top.

Appledore sits opposite Instow and a passenger ferry runs between the two during the summer months.
North Devon is renowned for its incredible coastline, miles and miles for all the family to enjoy. Great for surfing, kite surfing and walking. This is the beach at Instow.
Catch the passenger ferry from Bideford Quay for a day of birdwatching on Lundy Island.
Charming Clovelly is a short car journey away.
Sit and admire the view from the harbour at Clovelly.
Have a day of adventure at North Devon Wake Park where you can wakeboard, paddle board or enjoy the giant aquapark!
Bideford is a pretty market town.

Fig Tree Cottage was perfect. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. It was well decorated and furnished, with very comfortable beds and sofas. Its location was delightful, a pretty secluded garden, with plenty of places to sit. The cottage sits in the grounds of the owners house, with several acres of green space and woodland to walk around. It is completely separate from the owner's house and we had absolute peace and quiet. Horwood is a delightful country area, but within 15 minutes you can be in Instow, by the estuary. John's is a great cafe and deli, the Boathouse is a good relaxed restaurant. Near the cottage we ate at The Hunters Inn, good pub food. There are plenty of beaches and the coastal path for walking. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night break and would certainly return....

Fig Tree cottage is quiet and peaceful, with a spacious sheltered garden. Equipment has been thoughtfully chosen and we found everything we needed was there. A tribute to our welcoming host.

This is my second stay at Fig Tree Cottage. Last time in June 2025, this time in March 2026. It is nice to see the seasonal differences between the Spring and Summer in the lovely secluded walled garden. The cottage itself also accommodates for all seasons. A cool March this time, warm and welcoming, with plenty of heating inside. And yet, when I visited last June/July 2025 it was so hot outside, but a cooling fan was provided. Thank you to Ken the owner. Well equipped in all areas, as clean as a whistle, comfortable beds, beautiful serene location whatever the weather. Plenty of streaming channels to watch on TV if you fancy chilling out. Plenty of lovely places to walk and visit if you fancy going out. Now I have visited twice, I consider it a home from home now. I would definitely recommend to anyone. I'll be coming for a third time again sometime soon....

We had a very nice stay at Fig Tree cottage. The cottage was clean and very comfortable and the equipment provided to a high standard. Garden was very nice and well maintained and the two sitting out areas went down very well with the nice weather. The location of the cottage was good with all the major supermarkets nearby and local butchers in both Bideford and Barnstaple. Good, clean sandy beach at Instow nearby....

We had a lovely peaceful stay in this great well equipped cottage and enjoyed exploring the gardens and woodland and extensive views across the valley and beyond. Heard a cuckoo calling one morning and lots of birdsong. Plenty of walks along the lanes from the door and places of interest within a short easy drive. Ken the owner who lives opposite is an avid gardener who is very pleasant and unobtrusive. The walled garden with a variety of lovely trees and plants was an added bonus.
