Zip and linkLocated just a short drive from the stunning Sussex coast and a short ten-minute walk to the RSPB Fore Wood Nature Reserve and the iconic town of Battle, Pomona Annexe is a charming single-storey holiday home in a peaceful hamlet in a National Landscape (formerly an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Perfectly situated beside the 1066 Country Walk on an organic farm in beautiful countryside some 400 yards from the nearest road, this delightful retreat is ideal for a family holiday or a romantic getaway, and your four-legged friend is welcome to join you.
The annexe sits next door to the friendly owners' property. As you step inside, you will notice its blend of modern comforts and timeless rustic charm, creating a welcoming countryside retreat that's perfect for couples and families to enjoy. It has an eco-friendly biomass heating system, fuelled from wood from the farm adding a touch of sustainable comfort to your stay.
The open plan living space has an inglenook fireplace with a cosy wood-burning stove. The kitchen-area is well- equipped with all you need to cook up family favourites whilst everyone gathers around the large dining-table and enjoys hearty meals, stories and laughter together. Finish the evening with a good book, film or play games. Along the corridor you will find two beautifully dressed super-king double bedrooms, both of which can be made into twin beds if required. At the end of the corridor an interconnecting door leads to the owners' property but rest assured this will remain locked during your stay for your privacy.
Double doors from the living area open to private decking, the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee whilst making plans for your stay. Or take a wander to the private garden, where you can enjoy the afternoon sun whilst watching the resident farm hens.
As darkness falls, the area's dark skies make this the perfect spot for stargazing. Pop on your wellies and enjoy a walk around the farm which has a small herd of Dexter cows, three ponds, a stream, woodland and a newly planted traditional cider orchard. You may be lucky to spot some local wildlife including badgers.
Please supervise children and keep pets on a lead at all times when walking around the farm.
Don't forget to pack your hiking boots and explore the 1066 Country Walk, a 31 mile route that passes by Pomona Annexe. The route starts in Pevensey heading north towards the Pevensey levels, then passing Herstmonceux Castle, the historic 1066 Battle Abbey and battlefield on to Winchelsea and finishing in the ancient Cinque Port town of Rye with its pretty cobbled streets and abundance of antiques shops.
Pack a picnic and head to the coast. Visit the golden beach and sand dunes of Camber Sands or St Leonards-on-Sea with its scenic promenade or Hastings which boasts some lovely pubs and is home to William the Conqueror's first English castle or ride the two funicular railways.
The south coast is home to many National Trust properties, castles, gardens and vineyards. Visit Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard, Battle Abbey and Battlefield, Bodiam Castle, Great Dixter House and Gardens, Rudyard Kipling's House, Batemans, Smallhythe Place, Camber Castle, Herstmonceux Castle and Science Centre, Rye Castle Museum, Bedgebury National Pinetum, Bewl Water or Sissinghurst Castle Gardens before heading back to your countryside retreat in the heart of 1066 country!
