TwinSituated in beautiful grounds just outside the medieval town of Battle and a short drive from Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea, this delightful lodge offers a spacious holiday abode for couples, families and friends looking to stay in 1066 country.
Rockfield Lodge is attached to the friendly owners' house. It has a wonderfully spacious open plan living area that makes this a great holiday home for entertaining and making everlasting memories. The kitchen is a chef's dream with a large range oven and all you need to cook up your favourite meals whilst still interacting with the rest of the party. After dinner move to the generous lounge-area with its comfortable sofa and armchairs and watch movies together or perhaps venture into the games-area for a competitive game of darts, pool or table-tennis. The perfect space to keep everyone entertained whatever the weather.
When the time calls for bed, there are three sizeable bedrooms to choose from, all of which are thoughtfully designed with comfort in mind. On the ground floor, you will find a beautiful king-size double bedroom with direct access to a shower-room. It's perfect for guests that want to stay on one level. Sliding patio doors open to the terrace and garden, a peaceful spot for sundowners or a morning coffee.
Take the stairs which lead to an airy king-size double bedroom which enjoys views over the garden and surrounding countryside. It has an en suite bathroom and an interconnecting door opens to a twin room making this an excellent choice for friends travelling together or families with children.
Outside, the garden which is a haven for wildlife is a lovely place to sit and relax after a busy day exploring. Listen out for the tawny owls or take a stroll down to the paddock which is a beautiful space to enjoy any time of year.
If you bring dogs they must be kept on a lead at all times when outside the lodge and in the gardens. However, you can let your dogs off the lead in the paddock. Please note that guests will have priority over the paddock and part of the gardens that are shared with the owners, who have dogs of their own.
For history lovers, the area offers the opportunity to explore its past. Rumour has it that William the Conqueror's army first saw Harold's soldiers gathering on nearby Senlac Hill, ahead of the Battle of Hastings on 14th October 1066. This historic town has a museum, several tea-rooms, antiques shops, pubs, restaurants and several independent shops to explore. Battle has many events throughout the year including the Battle Bonfire celebrations in November, which is run by the oldest bonfire society in the world, the Battel Bonfire Boyes.
A short drive will take you to the coastal towns of Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea with its wide pebble beach and scenic promenade. Hastings old town has some lovely unique shops and pubs. Buy fresh fish from the boats or visit William the Conqueror's first English castle or the two funicular railways.
Pop on your hiking boots and explore the many footpaths including the 1066 Country Walk, a 31 mile route which starts in Pevensey heading north towards the Pevensey Levels, then passing Herstmonceux Castle, the historic 1066 Battle Abbey and Battlefield on to Winchelsea and finishing in the ancient Cinque Port town of Rye with its pretty cobbled streets and abundance of antiques shops. You also have some lovely walks and cycle routes around Bewl Water and Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest.
Book a wine tasting tour, locally there is Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard, Carr Taylor Wines, and Oastbrook Estate Vineyard.
Other places to explore include the iconic landscape of Dungeness, Camber Sands, the South Downs National Park, Herstmonceux Castle and Science Centre, Bodiam Castle, Pevensey Castle, Rye Castle Museum, Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Rudyard Kipling's house Bateman's, Winchelsea beach, Kent and Sussex Railway, Bodiam Boating Station, Glyndebourne Opera House and Great Dixter House and Gardens, to name just a few!
