Nearby beach
Once a favourite haunt of smugglers, Beer Beach is now a family favourite. A picturesque shingle beach embraced by limestone cliffs, Beer Beach is still used by fishermen and is home to a number of fishing boats. Swimmers are advised to take caution as the beach quickly shelves and there are no lifeguards on watch. With parking available nearby, the beach is a great spot to spend the day enjoying the coastal vibes.

Great little beach
We really liked beer and the beach, although stony, was pleasant with plenty of deckchairs and little cafes to grab a drink and sandwich.
Nearby walk
Start from the Half Moon Inn and take this five mile easy walk through the valleys of the Blackdown Hills. Make sure you have a map or good directions and you should end up back at the pub for a well deserved pint at the end.
Nearby town
Radiating out for over 140 miles from where we've marked as a centrepoint, this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty straddles the Devon and Somerset border. The Blackdown Hills paint a picture of the quintessential image of rural England. Rolling hills and deep valleys, sparsely populated except for the grazing cattle, it is the perfect destination for a classic countryside retreat. Criss-crossed with footpaths and country lanes linking the tiny hamlets and villages together, this is idyllic walking country.

Great pub, excellent food with huge portions. Sadly no garden. Friendly staff and locals.
With stunning views over the Culm Valley, The Half Moon is certainly worth a visit for its traditional homemade food and Real Ales. In the cooler months there is a lovely log fire to welcome you!

Very impressive
As my partner is a pilot it was inevitable we would need to visit the airfield.... usually these places are quite basic and food is obligatory greasy spoon type fare....but not here in Dunkeswell! Very impressed and very helpful staff. Food great and very reasonably priced too and dogs are welcome. The location of the outdoor seating also means you get an excellent view of aircraft both landing, taking off and parking up....
Built in 1835, this quaint village pub offers a warm welcome and hot plate. Serving locally-supplied produce and real ales from nearby breweries, Ashill Inn works closely with local businesses and is popular with both locals and visitors. The pub is family-friendly and wheelchair accessible.

Great Food - reasonably priced
We visited this pub twice during our stay at Snaffles Lodge. Both times we ate from the new summer menu. All the food was very good and well presented. We had for starters the scallops, the octopus and the duck - all yummy. And mains we went for the steak, the veggie noodles, the chicken Caesar salad , the Parmesan chicken and not forgetting the fish and chips. All were just perfect, if this is a temporary menu whist they attract new owners, then I can’t wait to go back and try the full one later. Highly recommended
