Zip and linkIf ever a property was the epitome of luxury town living, then The Gatehouse is it. Located in the historic market town of Malmesbury it provides the perfect base for couples or families looking to explore Wiltshire and the Cotswolds.
As part of an intimate courtyard development the property was constructed using reclaimed stone from the original yard and as you make your way around the property the feeling of quality, refinement and class is palpable. The open plan living space is very special with a stunning kitchen and large dining-area where you can spend many an hour socialising or feasting. The kitchen stands ready for you to whip up hearty holiday breakfasts, tasty lunches and leisurely suppers, and in the mornings the Nespresso machine will brew you a frothy coffee to get you set up for the day ahead. The living-room has been styled with real care and creates a homely and cosy space to curl up and relax. Despite its central location the thick walls, glazing and plantation shutters make the property a very quiet, cosy and calm place to be.
As you head towards the stairs there is a handy and stylish downstairs cloakroom and above the stairwell a wonderful roof lantern which lets the light pour in. Upstairs reveals two very large and sumptuous bedrooms with king-size beds, one of which is a 'zip and link' offering the flexibility of twin beds, both providing guests with a peaceful night's sleep amid soft linens. Both bedrooms have generous hanging space and dramatic apex ceilings, with one nearly four yards high. The bathroom sits between the bedrooms and, as with the rest of The Gatehouse, continues the luxury theme.
Outside you are treated to a private patio space to catch the sun and take in a hint of the bustle of town life. This sweet little patio has a table and chairs for some al fresco dining and the odd tomato or two from the vines when in season.
Venturing out you are in the heart of Malmesbury with its shops and numerous delicious places to eat and drink as well as Waitrose just a few minutes away so you can stock up on all the holiday essentials. Beyond the town you are at the foot of the glorious Cotswolds with its picture-perfect villages and Michelin starred restaurants. Tetbury, Castle Coombe and Badminton are all within easy reach, as are Bath, Cheltenham and Stow-on-the-Wold all within an hour.
Malmesbury is known as England’s oldest borough, established in 880 AD by Alfred the Great and remains home to historical reminders like the Abbey House Manor with its stunning gardens and The Old Bell Hotel – both well worth a visit.
