Double

This cosy and well-appointed semi-detached country retreat sits on a working heavy horse farm, perfect for couples or solo travellers looking to unwind, reconnect and enjoy the slower pace of rural life.

Situated just a short drive from both the A27 and A22, Carter's Cottage offers easy access to the Sussex coast and the peaceful countryside. Discover a tapestry of scenic walking and cycling routes that wind through charming villages and along iconic coastal paths. Explore the Vanguard Way, the historic Sussex Weald or take in the sweeping views along the South Downs Way.

The cottage is compact and thoughtfully laid out with everything you need to make your trip as easy and as comfortable as possible. The light and spacious kitchen/diner has all the essentials needed to prepare a lazy brunch or to rustle up your favorite holiday treats. Double doors lead out onto a private decking-area with table and chairs, the ideal spot for your morning coffee or evening sundowner. There is also access to a shared lawn with a picnic bench that sits beside the owner's neighbouring property, where you may be lucky to see the heavy horses working and grazing in the paddocks during the summer months.

Settle in for the evening in the sitting-room, indulge in a good book, watch a DVD or catch up with your favourite TV series. When the time comes to turn in for the night, a comfortable double bed awaits dressed in crisp white linens for that peaceful night's sleep. Wake up refreshed, and after an invigorating shower, head out to explore the delights that Sussex has in store for you.

The village of Chalvington is quiet with a pretty flint church, and pub called The Yew Tree. The neighbouring village of Ripe also has a church and a great little shop/post office which offers fresh produce, a cafe, and pop-up pub. Cycle or drive to the downland village of Alfriston, home to the Alfriston Clergy House, the first property acquired by the National Trust. Here you will find quaint pubs, independent shops, art galleries and tea-rooms. Just outside the village you can book a wine tasting tour or dine at the stunning Rathfinney Wine Estate.

The A27 provides easy access to coastal towns of Eastbourne, Seaford, Brighton and the county town of Lewes most famous for its bonfire celebrations and where you can rummage through its vintage stores or dine at an organic cafe or nice pub.

Get tickets to Glyndebourne and picnic in the wonderful grounds or enjoy a day exploring National Trust Houses, castles and gardens. Visit Charleston House, Lewes Castle, Pevensey Castle, or Rudyard Kipling's home at Bateman's.

Visit the Arlington Reservoir, Middle Farm, Cuckmere Haven, Friston Forest, Seven Sisters Country Park, Charleston Farmhouse, Long Man of Wilmington, the Long Man Brewery, Michelham Priory, Arlington Raceway, Pevensey Castle, Herstmonceux Castle and Science Centre and Lewes Castle to reference just a few!

However you decide to spend your days here in Sussex, Carter's Cottage is the perfect bolthole for all your holiday adventures.

Whilst there is no access beyond the decking-area and planters, there is a shared lawn with picnic bench. It's advisable to take care as, being in the countryside and home to local wildlife, the ground can be uneven and may have holes. The neighbouring property does have two, friendly, medium-size dogs that might come to say hello if they are loose in the parking-area or shared lawn.
