This peaceful retreat is situated in the sleepy picturesque village of West Dean in the heart of the South Downs National Park, a short distance from Cuckmere Haven and the Seven Sisters Country Park and the Cuckmere Haven.

Recently renovated this superb Grade II Listed barn has many original features including stone walls, beams but with a few modern additions including under-floor heating making it perfect for couples and families any time of year.

There are two delightful bedrooms; a double with en suite shower-room and doors that open to the courtyard garden and a twin bedroom with access to a shower-room. The sitting/dining-room is a great space with double doors that open to the courtyard garden and a large window with mesmerising views of the surrounding countryside.

The kitchen is compact yet has a gas hob, electric oven, coffee machine and even a liquidiser and complimentary basket of apples so you can have a go at making your own apple juice.

Heringaud Barn is blessed with Superfast WiFi so perfect if you feel the need to connect to the outside world.

The courtyard garden is very peaceful, listen to the bird song, catch the afternoon sun or at night it's the perfect spot for stargazers. The gardens that surround the cottages are private. The paddock next to the drive to Heringaud Barn is available for a dog walk and barbecue.

There is an on site farm shop which has some lovely home-made produce including mulberry white wine vinegar, mulberry jams, chutneys and pure apple juice.

If you love history, you can enquire about an archaeology tour of the farm via email to Classic Cottages and find out the history of the farm buildings including the West Dean Dovecote, which is the best-preserved part of the old farm buildings and dates to the Medieval era.

Nearby to Heringaud Barn is Quebec Barn (4889) this property sleeps four. These barns can be booked together if you require additional accommodation for family and friends.

Heringaud Barn is a short distance from the new Visitor Centre at Exceat. Don't forget to bring your hiking boots or bicycles (storage available) and explore the many paths into Friston Forest and beyond with routes to The South Downs Way, Merchants Way and Lullington Heath.

Your stay would not be complete without a visit to the village of Alfriston, recently named as the best village in the UK and home to the famous St Andrews church and Alfriston Clergy house, the first property acquired by the National Trust. This picturesque village has many independent shops, tearooms, pubs and restaurants. Visit Rathfinney wine estate just outside the village and pre-book a wine tasting tour.

Enjoy a stroll along the Cuckmere River and take in the views of the Litlington White Horse.

West Dean is a good base for visits to Glyndebourne Festival. Pack a picnic and enjoy the grounds or dine in one of the on site restaurants.

Wander along the coastal paths and explore the iconic landmarks including Beachy Head, Birling Gap and Seven Sisters Country Park.
