TwinLooking for the ultimate 'escape away from it all' retreat, where peace and seclusion abound, then look no further than this enchanting woodland hideaway. Tucked away in the beautiful Valency Valley, surrounded by seven acres of ancient woodland and glorious gardens, Anderton Mill offers the perfect combination of coast and countryside, as the dramatic north coast and the harbour village of Boscastle are just three miles away. It's a most idyllic spot with plenty of al fresco spaces, inviting you to slow down and reconnect with nature, with the gentle flow of the river that runs through the garden being the soundtrack throughout your stay. Whether firing up the barbecue on the higher terrace, starting the day with a morning cuppa on the front terrace, enjoying an evening stroll around the grounds or indulging in a lazy lunch on the riverside terrace, spot dippers, herons, otters and kingfishers, owls, badgers and woodpeckers - it's a wildlife paradise.
Inside original features and traditional charm and styling combine with modern day comforts, creating a unique holiday home, think slate floors, exposed stonework and beams, granite millstone and a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings in. The surprisingly spacious sitting-room is set to welcome you as step through the little cottage door. Prepare family meals and holiday picnics in the kitchen, served up on the dining-room table or whenever possible eaten outdoors. The stylish shower-room is set on the ground floor, not unusual for a property of this age and ideal for rinsing sandy bodies and toes after a day on the beach.
When it's time for bed the two pretty cottage bedrooms are found on the first floor, both enjoying views of the gardens and woodlands that surround.
If you want to venture further afield, the treats continue. Head to the coast and you can join the South West Coast Path in either direction for stunning scenery-loaded walks or stay inland and you'll find ancient woodland, Minster Church and St Juliot's Church of Thomas Hardy fame.
The nearby harbourside village of Boscastle is as pretty as a picture, with plenty of places to visit or get a bite to eat and drink, whilst Boscastle Farm Shop is the perfect spot for buying the freshest local produce, plus there's a fabulous cafe too. Just up the coast you'll discover Tintagel, famed abode of King Arthur, and the magical St Nectan's Glen, a stunning natural phenomenon.
Further along the coast the beautiful sandy beach of Trebarwith Strand awaits, whilst Port Isaac is a gorgeous seaside village with exceptional restaurants.
For a complete contrast in scenery head inland to the wide open landscape of Bodmin Moor, whilst there's an abundance of beaches nearby for exhilarating winter walks or long sunny days swimming and surfing at Crackington Haven, Bude, Widemouth Bay, Bossiney Cove and Polzeath.
The incredible Camel Estuary is a must, best discovered on two wheels along the Camel Trail, taking you all the way from Bodmin Moor out to Cornwall's foodie capital Padstow.
