Venturing out is a must. I would certainly recommend a trip out to visit some of south Devon's most iconic villages and towns; Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and historic Slapton Sands to name a few - especially as they're only a short car drive away!

A holiday in south Devon is not complete without a day (or three) soaking up the magnificent views, sights and sounds from one of the numerous beaches or coastline hotspots. You are truly spoilt for choice, from the action-packed beach at Blackpool Sands to the historic beach of Slapton Sands and the stunning sandy beaches of Thurlestone, Bigbury and Batham. Whichever takes your fancy, they are all within a short car drive, and will not fail to wow!

Not forgetting the gems which are at your fingertips. From the fabulous award-winning local pubs and eateries, some within walking distance, to the beautiful market town of Kingsbridge which offers a range of local delights and a warm welcome. Enjoying this fabulous area and all its delights is so easy to do.

With miles of breathtaking coastline at your disposal, a stroll along the beach or a picnic in the sun is a great way to enjoy this beautiful part of the world.

Experiencing the local eateries and watering holes is a real treat too. From waterside bars and restaurants, local and traditional watering holes to fine dining establishments, you have a fabulous selection within easy reach from the cottage, making enjoying this fantastic area and all it has to offer super easy.

If you can tear yourself away from the comfort of Fairfield, nearby you will find Slapton Ley and the stunning South West Coast Path to Start Point, where the National Trust has marked several footpaths. Please ensure you have a camera to hand as the views will be spectacular.

Linked by the South West Coast Path, the charming village of Hallsands offering some absolutely breathtaking views and vantage points is also at your disposal.

When it comes to beaches, you really are spoilt for choice, as you have your pick of some of south Devon's most fabulous beaches; from the action-packed Blackpool Sands, historically renowned Slapton Sands which is famous for its role in the Allied preparations for the D-Day landings, to the glorious sandy beaches of Bigbury, Thurlestone and Salcombe, all just a short drive away. Whether you are seeking water sports and action, or a lazy day relaxing, there's something for everyone.

Heading in another direction, park up in East Portlemouth and catch a ride on the ferry which will take you into the heart of the town of Salcombe. If nothing else, the ferry ride is guaranteed to please the younger members of the party.

Or how about a journey on a sea-tractor, if so head over to Bigbury-on-Sea beach. Bigbury-on-Sea is itself one of the jewels in the South Hams' crown. Taking a trip over to Burgh Island is a must, especially if you leave it until the tide is in, as the sea-tractor ferry service is a fabulous adventure. Bigbury-on-Sea is also home to one of the most stunning beaches. Whether you choose to while away the day on the golden sands or try your hand at something more adventurous on the water, such as windsurfing or canoeing, Bigbury's beautiful beach is perfect for both.
