Mackerel Sky is a detached little beauty situated on the edge of the Cot Valley just a short distance from St Just in Penwith. Enjoying glorious views across open countryside to the mighty Atlantic Ocean, this rural retreat is all on one level with a south-facing terrace for a sun-filled sojurn.

The characterful interior is open plan and includes a large sofa on which to relax at the end of a busy day, perhaps with a favourite tipple. A spacious, well-appointed kitchen provides plenty or workspace to appease the keenest of cooks who will surely enjoy using some freshly landed fish purchased from Newlyn Harbour. With a sumptuous king-size bed in the bedroom, holiday lie-ins are temptingly not far away. The adjacent dressing-room is a welcome extra and unpacking your vacation valise will not be a chore. Across from the kitchen is the rather lovely shower-room which will ensure your day gets off to a good start.

As you approach Mackerel Sky, the large wooden gates draw you in to this little sanctuary. With a beautifully maintained lawned area, a paved terrace in which to enjoy outdoor dining or maybe just catching a few rays, with an afternoon nap in the sunshine thrown in for good measure, it will be difficult not to relax into your stay here. And as the sun passes over the yard arm, amazing sunsets on clear nights will unfold.

With a somewhat handy farm shop just a hop, skip and jump away (well, about 300 yards), do call in and be seduced by the freshest of local produce and save on those food miles. And, since you are so close to the Cot Valley, any bird watchers amongst you will be thrilled to spot buzzards, tawny owls or maybe even a Cornish Chough if you are lucky. Autumnal visitors may also be treated to a feast of migratory birds on their onward journey to warmer climes.

If you can drag yourself out and about, there are some amazing beaches to discover, Sennen Cove, Porthcurno and Nanquidno to name but a few. Or, take a stroll along The South West Coast Path which is really close by and you may well be able to spot some seals, dolphins or even some basking sharks as you gaze out across the azure blue sea.

Penzance, St Ives, Marazion and Mousehole should all be added to your list of places to visit, as well as The Minack Theatre, Jubilee Pool in Penzance and perhaps Lands End too if you have the time. With so much to do here, you will be spoilt for choice but please do make time for the essentials; pasty, ice cream, fish and chips and last but not least, a clotted cream tea - jam first of course.
