The Cathedral City of Exeter is well worth a visit. The green surrounding the cathedral has lots of places to eat and there's plenty of shops for some retail therapy.
The Grand Western Canal in Tiverton is perfect for walkers and cyclists with stunning scenery and plenty of wildlife to spot.
Pack a picnic, pull on those walking boots and head to dramatic Dartmoor where you'll find these wonderful ponies grazing freely across the moors.
If the coast is calling, there are plenty of beaches to choose from. Here you have Shaldon to left of the estuary and the traditional seaside town of Teignmouth on your right.

We had a wonderful stay at Preston's Barn. Pom and Ant thought of everything. We loved the welcome fizz and homemade biscuits! And appreciated that the cottage had everything we needed for our weeks stay. It is in a good location for access to Dartmoor and the beach. It felt remote and relaxing, but only 15 minutes to a big supermarket. The grounds were beautiful and enjoyed watching the birds whilst eating breakfast, as well as walks in the woods. We have just returned from a wonderful weeks holiday at Preston's Barn. We met our lovely hosts Ant & Pom who made us feel welcome and settled immediately. The welcome gifts - homemade biscuits, fizz, milk, tea and card were a lovely touch. The accommodation is fantastic - so spacious, well appointed and equipped The kitchen and dining area is a great space for an evening of eating, drinking and playing family games. The lounge and mezzanine are great spaces to relax and watch a movie or have a quiet read and the bedrooms are so comfortable with quality linens. The shower rooms are of a high standard, great multi function showers with excellent water pressure. The position of the barn is so peaceful and enabled us to really relax away from every day life. It's only a short drive to Crediton for all you might need, perfect location for walking either from the door or a short drive. Nice pubs and restaurants near by. We will definitely be returning to Preston's Barn in the future....

We had the warmest of welcomes from Pom and Ant, we immediately felt relaxed after a very long journey. Preston’s Barn is in a beautiful area; whilst parts of the roads can be a challenge, it’s worth it. Main routes north and south aren’t far away for days out. Comfortable furniture, fresh linen, peace and quiet in a lovely garden and no country smells…bliss! Loved the mezzanine floor! Absolutely perfect for different generations or holidaying with friends.. En-suite downstairs is perfect for anyone including people with mobility issues; it’s fresh, clean and modern; it has a raised toilet, low step shower and unobtrusive folding shower seat (which I used as a shelf for my toiletries). Preston’s Barn has a lovely homely feel whilst being spacious and airy, definitely the best of both worlds, a wonderful rural retreat but within easy reach of many interesting places. We are definitely planning a trip back for autumn or spring next year; no doubt the surroundings will look totally different, a new experience each visit… ...

We had a very enjoyable stay at Prestons Barn in September 2025, despite the weather being a bit 'hit and miss'! Ant and Pom are such kind and considerate hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The property itself was very well equipped and comfortable; and the access to private woodland and an enclosed paddock was such a bonus! Thank you very much for a wonderful break ?? ...
