A beautiful, clean, very well equipped and very homely cottage in a gorgeous location, a short ride away from the co-op and centrally located to discover the Uists. Came with a resident family of short-eared owls. What's not to like!

I no longer have a car, am in my seventies but found the walk to the local co-op was just over a mile and pleasant.Had printed off the local bus timetables and found the buses reliable for travelling up the spinal route to Berneray(wow!) and down all the way to south of Eriskay. The people I met were very friendly, especially Joan who looks after the house, and Rebecca the lovely taxi driver from WMV motors who took me from the airport to the house and collected me on the way back. One of my friends came over by car for a few days. A brake warning light came on. She carefully got to the house ( no thanks to Gps) As she had AA they liaised with West Coast garage who came to collect her car the next day and repaired it by the next. Very god service....

Our second visit and we have already booked our return for next year. If you love the wild places yet are able to access local and friendly services in a remote setting, then Stella Maris fits the bill. The location is beautiful, and ideal for exploring South and North Uist, Benbecula itself, Berneray, Grimsay and Eriskay all of which have their own particular character. The property is very welcoming, exceptionally well presented, comfortable (not least given that it is in one of the remotest parts of the UK) and Mrs Morrison who looks after Stella Maris and it's visitors is a treasure. Anyone considering a visit should refer to the current Bradt guide to the Outer Hebrides (we recommend) which provides an excellent description of why you might visit the Islands and by inference why Stella Maris makes such a great base for a visit....

Stella Maris is a great family holiday home located on its own headland with its own wildlife to watch as well as exploring further afield This was our second stay at Stella Maris and we are highly likely to book it again for a further trip to the islands....
