Lovely cottage in a stunning location. We were fortunate to have lovely weather so could make the most of the garden and views. We really enjoyed our stay and would return, The sink in the bathroom is tiny but we didn’t find it a problem for a few days. ...

We recently stayed at the Dolls House Cottage in Branscombe and were charmed by its beautiful location and peaceful surroundings. The cottage is perfectly situated for exploring the area, with lovely walks on the doorstep and the beach just a short stroll away. It’s an ideal spot for those looking for a tranquil escape, and especially welcoming for dog owners, with plenty of outdoor space and dog-friendly beaches nearby. While the setting and character of the cottage were delightful, we did find the comfort levels inside a little disappointing. The futon-style sofa in the main living area made relaxing in the evenings less comfortable than we’d hoped, and the mattress on the bed was quite basic, which affected our overall sleep quality. Unfortunately, these factors would make us hesitant to return, which is a real shame as otherwise we wouldn’t have hesitated to book again. Overall, a charming cottage in a wonderful location, but with some improvements to comfort, it could be truly perfect....

A great cottage in a beautiful location. An easy 20 minute walk down to the beach and less than 5 minutes down to the Old Bakery tearoom where they serve delicious cakes and coffee. We made good use of the local bus service which runs between Sidmouth and Seaton and stops by the tea room. A great alternative to using a car on the very narrow Devon roads. There are many lovely walks direct from the cottage. A particularly special one was along the coastal path from Branscombe to Beer and back again - a bit steep and challenging but well worth the effort. I'd also recommend a 15 minute walk to the Masons Arms for its great food and drink....

I have given a yes to realising expectations but that was very hesitant. The settee is seriously uncomfortable and there was no freezer or refrigerator freezer compartment. A sun umbrella would have been appreciated. Both the freezer and the sun umbrella became more important with the very hot weather we were fortunate to have. The sink in the shower room is too small. The amount of literature re local events etc. is limited but what there was there was helpful. For instance the information could have included that there is a local bus service between Sidmouth and Seaton, including Beer, which was useful to us. Reference to it or even a timetable would have been helpful. One evening we had no TV. Our mistake I think but a pack of cards or games would have been appreciated. I’m sure the dish washer is appreciated by many. However for just 2 people and a limited amount of crockery it seems a bit unnecessary especially in these energy efficient times! Having said all of that, which is truly meant to be helpful, we enjoyed our stay. Very peaceful and with wonderful views from its high position. The climb from the village has emphasised our lack of fitness and as a couple in our later 70’s it was probably a bit too challenging!...

Ms Jacks October 2025

This cottages is in a lovely location and fine for a few days if you want a bolt hole for your walks but basic in its amenities and not a place to hunker down on a winters night for too long but ok for a long weekend. However, during summer months it must be lovely to sit outside or bbq.. not the best on a wet autumn day! ...

We’re so pleased you enjoyed staying on the Trafalgar Barton Estate and found The Dolls House a good centre for your short walking break. It is a shame the wet weather prevented relaxed evenings firing up the BBQ and stargazing. As it is a smaller property the décor is quite minimalist and uncluttered but does have all you need for a great holiday. Sarah, Customer Support...
