Absolutely wonderful stay in a beautiful cottage in a unique location.
Mrs McGurk January 2026
Blue Hemmel is the most remote and magical cottage we have ever stayed in, and we completely loved our stay. It was very cold whilst we were there, so we didn't do very much, apart from chill in this lovely cottage which is very well equipped, warm and comfortable. Lovely walks for the dogs from the door. Owner extremely helpful and easy to contact with questions etc, but without being invasive in any way. Highly recommend listening to the playlists he has put together, they are great :-) We definitely plan to return, maybe in slightly warmer weather when we will be able to watch the wildlife more in the longer daylight hours. We would extremely highly recommend Blue Hemmel to anyone....

We prefer our staycations to be ‘north of the wall’ and this one was no exception, even if it was only north of Hadrian’s Wall by a couple of miles! Northumberland is stunningly beautiful so we couldn’t resist the opportunity to stay in the west of the county in a restored 1860’s barn in the heart of Wark Forest. The Blue Hemmel is a labour of love for owner Simon, it is comfortably quirky, with lots of interesting music memorabilia, and set in a peaceful location on the family’s farmland. We enjoyed a relaxing weekend here, making the most of the cottage’s many amenities; log burner, outdoor fire pit, games, cards, books, listening to the birds, stargazing, watching the furry neighbours (sheep, cows, and a weasel) and reliving magical memories to the backdrop of some wicked tunes on the record player. As well also making new memories by spending some much needed quality time together as a family exploring the local area....

A really lovely property with all you need for a lovely holiday . We booked for the location and were not disappointed.
Mr Swift June 2025
Blue Hemmel is on the moors surrounded by upland pasture and pine forests. The only sounds are birdsong and sheep, it's quiet and relaxing. The property itself is very comfortable, fitted out to a high standard and has every appliance you could need, including a lovely wood burner for cooler evenings and even an astronomical telescope. We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay. ...
