The museum that the owner has , and is still expanding, is very interesting showing how early radar helped in the World War 2. He happily showed us around and gave us a feeling of what it must have been like at the time it was in use.

Fascinating property in a great location for visiting Dale and the various Havens. Really enjoyed looking at the artwork, the information about the history of the building and the books (which were a bit different from the usual holiday-cottage reading material). In particular, Eileen Younghusband's book about her WAAF experiences during WW2 really brought to life how the different aspects of the radar system worked together - and it was refreshing to read an 'ordinary' female perspective on life during wartime. The location is very peaceful - the Officers' Mess and Officers' Quarters are in two separate buildings which isn't immediately obvious from the photos on the website. ...

We stayed at the Officers' Mess two years ago and loved it so much that we decided to try the Officers' Quarters this time. We were not disappointed. The photos do not do the property justice. As with the Officers' Mess , the owners have managed to capture the feel of the time so authentically. The property is spacious, well-eqipped and we were given a lovely warm welcome by our hosts. The outdoor space was fantastic with areas to suit any time of day and we highly recommend using the hammocks. The location is perfect for exploring the local area and we particularly enjoyed our evening stroll down to St Brides Beach. Other high-lights were Dale, Marloes Sands and the lovely cafe there Runwayskiln. Infact the area had such an impact on us that since our first visit here we have actually moved to Pembrokeshire from Cornwall. Lovely property in a particularly stunning area. ...

This is a truly uniquely styled property, which really made you feel you had stepped back in time, in a good way. (It only needed the addition of the smell of Mansion Polish, to take me straight back to the married quarter homes of my childhood and my Dad's RAF offices!) The decor and furnishings were lovely, comfortable and fitted with the 1940's theme, with lots of historical items & photos enhancing the ambience. The sitting room with wood burner, was so cosy and warm, we didn't get as far as using the dining room, but ate at the small table in there instead, (there was only two of us, so plenty of room). The beds were extremely comfortable and the bedding probably the best we have ever had in a holiday property. The addition of the hot tub, was very welcome and we made use of it most evenings after our long walks, a great way to relax the stressed muscles, under the stars too, at this time of year (March). The shower rooms are a little austere and reminded us both, of our school days, with the high cisterns and chain flush pulls! A little more luxury in these areas would be an asset. The kitchen is adequately equipped and does have the addition of a slow cooker, as well as the usual cooking stove & microwave. But be aware that there are limited pantry items, no cooking oil, vinegar, coffee, (no pods either for the coffee machine), sugar etc. good to be aware of for the first evening's meal/refreshment. We were supplied with loose leaf tea, milk, salt & pepper and two packets of Welsh cakes, plus there was bottled water in the bedrooms, which was a lovely idea. The location of The Officers Quarters was great for us, you can walk from the door to join the coastal path or drive down to St Brides beach, (1 mile away, where there is good parking) and again join the coastal path or the local footpath network that takes you over to Marloes village and onwards to Marloes sands. From The Officer's Quarters, you are not far to anywhere in south Pembrokeshire, so lots of opportunity for eating out, walking, beaches, shopping etc. For eating out, we found Runnwayskiln Cafe at Marloes Sands, The Really Wild Emporium in St David's, The Stackpole Inn at Stackpole, (lots of walks available from Stackpole Quay or Estate) all excellent for lunches - quality dishes, with fresh local ingredients and good choices for all diets, plus cheerful, helpful staff. If you are interested in wartime history, a visit the Carew Cheriton Control Tower is highly recommended. We took up their offer of a Saturday morning visit, (they have limited opening hours out of season, a Google will bring up their website for full information) and it was brilliant, so informative and interesting. Steynton Farm Shop on the way to Milford Haven was great for fresh home grown produce, extremely fresh milk, cheese, ice cream etc. and Farm Cottage bakery, provides excellent bakery products and bread Thurs- Saturday - pre orders and collection only, but they are only just dow...
