Mr Chatfield September 2020
Excellent location, but difficult for beach access, very steep, long paths to beach, great view though.
Mr Chatfield September 2020
Super location for a very relaxing holiday. Convenient spot for visiting south cornwall. Highly recommended.
Mr Gill August 2020
Our 2nd visit to Gulls Roost in August proved even more windy than the last one! That just enhanced what a great place to stay it is. Always seems blessed with sunny evenings.
Mr Warden August 2020
Absolutely beautiful location and place to stay. Lovely patio to sit out on and enjoy the amazing view x
Mrs Bloom July 2020
Beautiful cottage, with fantastic views! Definitely the place to go if you want to get away from it all. Have already booked again for next year & can't wait to return.
Mr Lodder February 2020
It's a fantastic place to chill out, relax and enjoy the scenery . Every little thing thought about so you don't have to . Has the creature comforts at home on holiday .
Mrs Riach December 2019
Tucked into the edge of the cliffs, access to the cottage is down a number of steps from the main road (and parking area) where you'll find Gulls Roost, located in stunning and very quiet area of Whitsand Bay with the most remarkable views which will not disappoint. Comfortable, tastefully decorated, spacious, warm, and dog friendly too! We did find the beds a bit too soft for our liking, but this is perhaps just a preference. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need, including Free-Sat TVs in the main lounge and bedrooms. The WIFI works well, although it can cut out for a couple of hours in a storm (which is to be expected given the location). There are plenty of books to read, puzzles to do, and nearby places to visit. We stayed at Gulls Roost over the New Year and really enjoyed our very relaxing stay there. Thank you. We hope to return.
Ms Knott November 2019
Second visit to Gulls Roost and planning a third. Comfortable, spacious and so relaxing just watching the sea every day, I didn’t want to leave
Mr Gill August 2019
Very comfortable and spacious with a fabulous view. Just remember you're on top of a cliff (70m up) so it can be windy (tip: even in a SW breeze, at beach level there is no wind! So go to the beach anyway!). Well equipped and tastefully decorated with TV's in all rooms. Absolutely fell in love with Gulls Roost.
Best place to watch a raging sea in a tropical storm! :-)
Mrs Chatfield July 2019
It would have been perfect if they called us and sorted the problem. Even when we emailed the classic cottages we never get anywhere. We love the place except for the last day with no electricity on the main part of the cottage . Mr and Mrs Chafield
Reply from Classic Cottages
We're so sorry that you had some problems with the electrics on your last day. We did respond to your email as soon as the issue was reported as there appeared to have been some miscommunication between yourselves and the housekeeper as to the extent of the power outage on the last day of your holiday. We're so pleased however that after our conversation this morning we've been able to address your concerns directly and we're delighted that you had a wonderful stay at Gulls Roost overall. Bryony, Customer Support
Mr Birkett July 2019
Outstanding place for an unforgettable relaxing break.
Mrs Green May 2019
Our 4th holiday at gulls roost, brilliant as usual. That stunning view is just wonderful and such a lovely comfortable bungalow it’s magical. Can’t wait to return. Many thanks to Brenda.
Mrs Dunnett April 2019
A wonderful cottage with a spectacular view of the sea . I will certainly be returning.
Mr Barnett April 2019
Always a delight to stay here, an oasis. Looking forward to coming back again soon.

Miss Chave March 2019
It was wonderful as always. My thanks to the Goldbergs and Brenda for a beautiful well equipped cottage. The reception was perfect, and so was the weather
Mrs Davies March 2019
It is a beautiful place and it was a second visit but felt very vulnerable because of its remoteness (we are 10years older and didn’t notice it before) and because of the very poor internet and telephone signal felt very isolated
Reply from Classic Cottages
Gulls Roost is definitely 'off the beaten track' - tucked away into the cliff with the nearest village (Crafthole) a mile or so away - and we're sorry if this didn't work for you. We apologise for any interruption in the WiFi signal; we've asked the owners to investigate any problems. Mobile signal can be a little 'hit and miss' in some rural/coastal locations and our best advice would be to check your network provider's coverage. If you'd prefer something a little closer to a town or village in the future, our Sales team would be delighted to help. Bryony, Customer Support
* UPDATE APRIL 2019 * The owners have now upgraded to Superfast WiFi to improve the internet connection.
Mr Peasey February 2019
Brilliant location, ticked all of our requirements
Mr Holmes January 2019
The location is sublime, the views are utterly stunning. A comfortable and great place to stay.
Ms Knott November 2018
This property is an absolute gem and my two week stay have been so relaxing, I really didn’t want to leave. Perfect location with spectacular views and lovely long walks with my dogs.

Thank you so much for your review of Gulls Roost. We're delighted to hear that you had a wonderful holiday and that you (and the dogs!) enjoyed exploring the area. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Kari, Customer Support
Mrs Upton October 2018
one of the best cottages ive seen and could live here for ever.
Mrs Baker October 2018
Amazing views from pretty much every room in the cottage and a lovely sun trap of a veranda to enjoy those views outside (if you get good weather - which surprisingly in October we certainly did!). Sunsets were gorgeous too and seemed to fill the entire chalet! Listening to the sounds of the ocean while dropping off to sleep was just the ticket for a truly relaxing holiday.
On a less positive note we feel a responsibility to warn about the very poor Wifi, especially, if like us, you happen to be taking a teenager with you (and a husband who has to download his daily newspaper!).
I'd like to say these things aren't important for a relaxing holiday and personally for me the views and location outweighed poor Wifi. And we do appreciate that it mightn't be something the owners can do that much about - but just be warned.

Miss Chave October 2018
Everything was very good. The service was first class. Brenda and the Goldbergs were wonderful as always.
Mr Trestler September 2018
The stunning view, the sedated quiet, the warm welcome and a dog friendly landlord and and and...........
Dr Ernstberger August 2018
We spent wonderful holidays and we are looking foreward to come back soon!
Mrs Adoue August 2018
Wonderful house, spectacular views and smell of the sea. A unique property with one of the best views of the ocean I have ever seen from a private house anywhere in the world ! Freathy cliff and whitsand bay are special places. The beaches are unspoilt and not crowded, although a steep climb down and back up are a challenge, but worth the effort.
Mr Tovey June 2018
While taking my bags up to the car from the house I noted that there were 48 steps. That phrase reverberated in my mind. 48 steps, 48 steps just 48 steps to the end of my holiday, 48 steps to take to the old routine. I don't think 48 steps have ever been so difficult. One step after another, each harder than the previous step. The steps that take you home from the dream are always difficult but its nice and comforting to know you experienced the dream and Classic Cottages as the Gulls Roost where there for my family and I. Thank you for the experience. To wake in the morning feeling happy is a great experience and the Gulls Roost gives you this. Never have the words 'Its nice to go away but its nice to come home' ever meant so much but this is how I felt after each day out here. Fantastic to be out and about enjoying Cornwall but great to return to the beautiful Gulls Roost. Every thing was here for you to enjoy. Every thing was here to be seized upon and utilised for your enjoyment. Everything from the tangible relaxing atmosphere within the house to the 9 sea gulls roosting below on the little cluster of rocks visible from the balcony. If it looks great, feels great then it is Gulls Roost. Look in life not many things are cheap these days. We all try to cut corners and look for a better deal here and there but quite frankly we all know in our heart that you really do only get what you pay for. Life is a compromise I know, we all know this but why does it have to be. During the last year I have lost friends and its this thats placed this new passion and drive within me. A drive to try and live life more to the full. A drive to try and do better and try to do better for my family. Part of this is enjoying what you have and what you can have. Look around and see that the world is a great place. Splash out a little. be prepared to pay a little extra and then reap the rewards. I searched for my holiday trying to save a few bucks here and there and Gulls Roost was not the cheapest. I thought to myself 'don't do that to yourself' 'My family are worth a little more and I am worth it too'. I was right Gulls Roost and Classic Cottages helped me achieve and satisfy my recent passion and drive. Thank you very much to you all.
Mr Gibbons April 2018
The pictures don't do the view justice. It is just incredible.
Mrs Glasgow March 2018
A little piece of heaven in Cornwall.
Mr Rice March 2018
We found GR comfortable and much better than we’d anticipated (thought it would be more of a summer chalet than a substantive bungalow). The location and views are splendid.
Mrs Anderson March 2018
What a lovely place. Spectacular view and so comfortable. First class place to come back to after a long day exploring the area.
The bottle of wine was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Going to sleep to the sound of the waves was so relaxing we did not want to come home.
Would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to get away from it all. Even in March it was glorious, if a little windy. But looking out over the sea from the warmth and comfort of the large sofa was delightful.
Mr Harvey November 2017
2nd visit and weren't disappointed. Cannot fault cleanliness and decor. A great base for exploring the whole of the South East Cornwall and Devon.
Mrs Green September 2017
3rd time we have visited gulls roost wonderful holiday again. Cosy cottage with stunning views the sea was wild at times amazing to watch. Lots of lovely walks and good places to eat. Can't wait to return. Many thanks to owners and Brenda.
Mr Fric July 2017
We spent a wonderful time and enjoyed the fantastic view. We are looking forward to our next vacation at Gulls Roost.
Mrs Valencia July 2017
perfect location for a lovely holiday, peaceful, plenty of walks, lots of good eating places and pubs in nearby villages. wonderful facilities in the bungalow, wine and flowers to welcome you. plenty to explore and do, or sit and watch the sea for peace and quiet.
Mr Harvey April 2017
Lovely location and the beach was amazing. Footpaths to the beach that are close to the property needed to be navigated with care. For smaller dogs or people not so agile this could be a problem. Once on the beach, it's lovely, just take care getting to and from. Other footpaths lead to the beach and we did not explore these. They may be better, but the closest ones need a little care.
Miss Chave April 2017
We had a lovely week. The cottage was perfect I wouldn't want to change anything. The weather was great to have breakfast on the patio, and the walks suggested in the book left for us were brilliant. I can well see why people keep coming back. We will cerainly be looking to book again. Thank you to all concerned.
Mrs Brown March 2017
An absolutely fantastic place to just sit, look out to sea, and switch off from all the craziness in this world!
Miss Tarkanyi December 2016
It should have been stated clearly that this place is not safe for children or animals as the house is on the main road with dangerous traffic and there is no fence around the house, therefore all children and dogs can be on the road in two seconds. Also the beds are horribly old and uncomfortable, including that super used sofa which is just unacceptable when one pays a thousand pounds for a week. We could not sleep well at night and by the morning everything was hurting, we could not sit and enjoy a movie either because the sofa was the arch enemy. At some point i was so desperate to sleep that I almost ended up on the dogs' memory-foam mattress. The double duvet and the tiny beds are also upsetting.
It should have been also mentioned that the house is next to a military training base (literally), therefore most dogs will have a very stressful stay instead of the dream holiday.

We were really very sorry to see your comments, we felt that we'd done a fairly good job of describing the rather unique location of this property over the many years that we've marketed it. It's set below the level of the road (approx 30 steps and two gates to reach the property) and isn't available for children under 7 because of the cliffside location. Although you had no children staying, we are sorry that you felt your dogs were at risk. Tregantle Fort is around a mile and a half away along the coastline, it's used for occasional training (planned sessions are advertised on the parish council website www.sheviockparish.org.uk) - although we've found no record of planned training during your visit, so there may have been a last minute change. This hasn't caused a problem to date, but we're sorry if your dogs were distressed. The Owners have decided to replace the sofas following your comments, but when we visited this week (Jan 2017) we felt that the mattresses were in good condition - albeit one a firmer rating than the other - and we're sorry they didn't suit you. Had we known you preferred a softer bed, some mattress toppers could have been made available for you. Tanya, Customer Support
Miss Bell September 2016
The cottage is very special and if you want a holiday that is guaranteed to offer tranquility, great views, beautiful décor and just that special feeling when you walk through the door, this is it. Thanks for Brenda, the housekeeper, this property still keeps giving over the years.
Mrs Cook August 2016
We would recommend this cottage as a quiet retreat and would definitely consider a second visit.
Mrs Biryulina August 2016
Fantastic location and magnificent views! Having breakfast or a cup of coffee in the morning on the patio - such a treat. Beautiful beach and dogs allowed meant we all had a great time. Freathy provides an easy access to lots of nice places and is only 25 min drive from a big supermarket - should you need anything. We had lovely dinners in The View, Finnygook Inn and a massive breakfast in the Daisy's Café. Kids enjoyed go karts, adrenaline valley and crabbing in Looe. Just one week and only 4.5 hour drive from home and wow, what a nice holiday. Thank you
Mr Barnes August 2016
Gulls Roost is a perfect property in a perfect location. We absolutely love it!! We spent most of the evenings sat on the patio, soaking up the view, dreaming of owning something similar. We will definitely be back.
Mrs Pinchen June 2016
If you book Gulls Roost, I guarantee you will re book before you've even left. We read so many comments from previous visitors who were on their second/third/fifth visit - or even more and can now utterly and totally see why. Wow!
Mr Wan May 2016
The views were fantastic and with lots of local places to explore it was a perfect break
Miss Chave April 2016
Everything was absolutely gorgeous. We are already trying to book again for next year. Thank you.
Mr Harris March 2016
We stayed for the second successive year and, if we stay in the area again, no doubt we'll stay at Gulls Roost again. It's a beautiful location over a wonderful beach, in a lovely area. The view (which you get from both bedrooms as well as the living room) is breathtaking. The cottage itself is beautifully presented, with great care and attention to cleanliness and detail - and the welcoming wine, flowers and biscuits are a really lovely touch. We can't fault the place - I'm sure you won't be able too either!
Mr Gardner March 2016
Gulls Roost is the perfect place for a relaxing chilled out break! The cottage is beautifully presented, well equipped and is located on a stunning coastal view position - the views are breathtaking!
Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
Paul and Jane Gardner from Worcester.
Mr Curtis September 2015
The view from Gulls Roost is simply spectacular and must be experienced to be believed. We had a very sunny week and watching the sunsets from the patio were better than we have seen in the Mediterranean. The cottage is very comfortable, light and airy, the layout is well thought out to maximise the sea views. All in all the perfect place for a holiday and we would love to return.
Mr McCormick June 2015
A beautiful home with stunning views. Extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped. Loved the balcony and being able to hear the sea from the bedrooms.
Mrs Green April 2015
Lovely cottage with stunning views.
Mr Harris March 2015
It's a beautiful cottage and its location is fantastic. Morning, noon and night, the view brought a smile to our faces and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Everything inside was clean and exactly as described - and it's roomy too. Beautifully laid out as well Sidney (the toy poodle) loved it here too - the garden is nice and secluded and just right for a small dog. We loved the walk down to the beach (though it is a bit strenuous at first) and the views from there are just as wonderful. You're no more than 20 minutes from Polperro, Looe, Portwrinkle, Downderry, Seaton, Rame Head, Kingsand/Cawsand, St Germans, Liskeard, Saltash and Torpoint. There's a Tescos in Liskeard (11 miles away) and a Sainsburys in Torpoint (3 miles away) if you need to do a big shop too. Brenda (the housekeeper) was lovely too and the wine, shortbread and flowers on reception were a genuinely nice too. Can't be faulted - highly recommended. If you want a view - THIS is the place!
Mr Marsh March 2015

Mrs Green November 2013
A warm and cosy cliff top retreat above one of the best beaches in Cornwall to sit and enjoy watching winter storms.
Mrs Fleming October 2013
For anyone looking for a peaceful holiday away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life, look no further than Gulls Roost. We have enjoyed 13 holidays here, and intend to continue for many more. The cottage comfort is second to none, and the views and location are simply stunning. There is always entertainment, watching the surfers, the Navy, and the bird life. The owners make new improvements every visit, and clearly are dedicated to the comfort of the tenants. The sunsets are breathtaking. We could not recommend this cottage too highly.
Mrs Andrews September 2013

Mrs Irmscher August 2013
A very special place of remarkable beauty, absolutely recommendable.
Ms Bailey May 2013
The location of Gulls Roost is wonderful and that makes the holiday but furnishings do look tired inside the property.
Reply from Classic Cottages
Thanks for your review of Gulls Roost, we're glad you enjoyed the location. This is a very popular cottage, so there will inevitably be a little wear and tear, but we discussed your comment with the Owner when we visited recently and she's looking at updating some areas over the winter months.
