A delightful place to stay, with lovely flowers and grounds. Loved the pond !

A very cosy cottage in a most convenient location within walking distance of Porthleven. Very comfortable garden chairs on the suntrap patio which is now paved. The owners are lovely people who genuinely want you to have a great holiday and are very helpful....

After reading reviews and looking at the photos online we were really looking forward to a relaxing week at Lavender Barn. After a long drive down to Porthleven we were greeted by Sarah and Tim. They were very welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately to be greeted with ' the barn is prone to damp and the bathroom fans do not work and you will need to keep the windows open to ventilate the rooms' wasn't the welcome we had hoped for. The barn was indeed beautifully furnished but upon opening the door the smell of damp hit us straight away. We immediately opened all the windows and kept them all open every time we were in the barn but the strong damp smells were permanent and sickly. I have to say that the desire to leave was quite strong but we had nowhere else to stay and were tired after our drive so vowed to make the most of our stay. Unfortunately the two rooms were at opposite ends of the barn and both smelt of damp and indeed there was evidence of yellow damp coming through the white paint on the walls. We were uncomfortable, for safety reasons, keeping the window open of one of the bedrooms at night as it opened straight onto the lane. My daughter ended up sleeping on the sofa in the lounge as the smell of damp was too strong with the window shut. There was no leverage to address this with the owners as their solution was to open the windows and clearly the barn requires some large scale structural improvements/damp proofing. I am honestly stunned that other guests to the barn have not raised this as a concern as they appear to give glowing reviews online. If we had known up front then we would not have booked this holiday rental, and at the price we paid. The horrible damp smell really did spoil what we hoped would be a lovely rental. Our only solution was sightseeing and exploring the stunning surrounding area and spending as little time at the barn as possible. Such a shame as it really is a beautiful spot, beautifully furnished and could've been such a lovely holiday. ...

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on Lavender Barn. We're so sorry that you felt that the barn was damp. Although we weren't aware of your thoughts during your stay, we arranged an inspection as soon as possible after you let us know. Unfortunately we couldn't find any evidence of damp at the time of your visit, but we do agree that older Cornish properties such as this do benefit from good ventilation. We're really sorry that your holiday experience wasn't all that we'd hoped for, but appreciate your comments on the beautiful furnishings, lovely scenery and friendliness of the owners. Hotels and cottages are almost always not as good as they look on the internet or in the brochure. But this one was! It was an absolute delight and had everything you could wish for in a holiday home. Great location, beautifully furnished, and kind owners. We liked the location because it was halfway between Porthleven (small local shops, cafes etc) and Helston (large supermarket). Did you know that the owner actually puts all the kitchen equipment in the dishwasher for each new arrival? What excellent service and so reassuring in the present circumstances. The Pilates studio was something that attracted me to this property. We had two lessons with Sarah who was such a knowledgable and experienced teacher. The walks around here were stunning, not just the coastal path, but those on the Penrose Estate, where it is actually much easier to socially distance. ...
