Mrs Maher June 2022
Bashford Lodge is situated in a beautiful, tranquil location. The view from the balcony was stunning. We weren’t blessed with sunny days during our June stay but we still enjoyed days out sightseeing and walking. The lodge was well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable, relaxing break. Would definitely recommend the property and the area.
Mr Constantine May 2022
The property is in a beautifully elevated position with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The large balcony is a fantastic place to sit out and enjoy the peace and quiet. On arrival we found the property spotlessly clean and were delighted with the superb cake the owner had left for us. There are walks directly from the property and a super pub a 5 minute walk away. The lodge was warm and comfortable and the showers were fantastic and powerful. Some of the soft furnishings, cutlery and mugs need updating but this didn't really detract from our stay. As a previous reviewer has mentioned, due to the open plan nature of the kitchen/dining/sitting areas I think it would feel overcrowded if 6 adults were staying.
Mr Turner April 2022
This property is ideal for 2, 3 or 4 people. However, it can sleep 6 adults and we felt that the 'sitting room' (which incorporates the kitchen/dining area) could perhaps become a little crowded especially if there was a wide age range in residence. Apart from the bedrooms there is no other indoor space.
Mr Warren October 2021
Excellent accommodation, views and local pub, a joy to come back to after a long day out.
Mrs Maltby October 2021
BEWARE! House is only accessible via a busy riding school where horses are being moved up and down to the field alongside the house.

We are so sorry to read that this property wasn't quite what you were looking for. We do try to be as accurate as possible in our descriptions and do show the property with the horses in the field behind, as well as mentioning the neighbouring stables but can only apologise if this didn't work for you. Mrs Scrase September 2021
Bashford Lodge was one of the best self-catering properties we have stayed in (over 30 years' experience). It was very comfortable, the beds were perfect, and everything was provided for, especially the stupendous cake! (That didn't last long...) Jill was such a welcoming owner and we very much enjoyed chatting to her. The setting is so peaceful, the air is soft and refreshing, and the view is outstanding - as other guests have found, it is very difficult to stop sitting and looking at the rolling hills and the ever-changing clouds, light and shade. The horses added to the overall 'balm for the soul'. Although we are only an hour away - East Devon and South Somerset - West Somerset is a world away . The Rising Sun is well worth a visit and is in staggering distance!
Mr Williams September 2021
David and Gill were amazing hosts.
They gave us a very warm welcome which included a wonderful cake on our arrival.
We had a fabulous time and would certainly have no hesitation in recommending both the place and the location.
Mr Bradbury June 2021
We can only echo the positive comments of previous guests and would love to return.
Mr Forbes May 2021
This is a very smart property with stunning views. We found everything as advertised and the owners were very keen to help and were attentive throughout. As others have commented, the twice daily parade of the horses from the co-owned Quantock Trekking was a real treat!
Mrs Warren April 2021
A lovely comfortable property with wonderful views from the balcony.

Mr Brown October 2020
Gill welcomed us personally to Bashford Lodge and was a very friendly guide to the property and also helped us to find a riding school for our girls to try out horses appropriate to their age an skill level.
The views of the valley from the lodge are stunning and it was amazing to see the horses from Quantock Trekking stables come down from the hills every day for breakfast, without much help form the staff. It was the highlight with the kids each morning!
We also loved the boot and coat drying room and the boot washing facilities provided, they are unique, in our experience, and were really helpful in geting all our walking kit ready at the end of each day. This was particularly helpful given the awful weather we encountered, during our stay.
At the end of the week, we all felt relaxed and happy, which in these times is precious gift. The Lodge as an excellent place to stay and we would recomment it to anyone wanting to stay in the North Somerset area.
Mrs Butler October 2020

Great location for walking from the front door, quiet lanes and wonderful views and great bases to use the car to go further afield. The lodge is a perfect retreat.
Mrs Moss July 2020
We enjoyed our stay at Bashford Lodge. It was very welcoming and cosy. It was spotlessly clean with ample supplies of hand wash and hand gel and felt very Covid safe. The view is stunning and we loved sitting out on the balcony. Our hosts were very welcoming and friendly.

Great views and lovely to watch the owners' horses return from the field to the stables and back again later on; all on their own.
Mr Lawton May 2019
This property is first class and is in a wonderful location. It offers modern comforts in a rural setting. The owner is pleasant, helpful and informative. We cannot recommend this highly enough as a venue if you appreciate peace and quiet in a beautiful location with lots of diverse and interesting things todo.
Mrs Hawkins April 2019
Superb location and a wonderful host. The cottage had everything you could need for a self-catering stay be it spring, summer or winter. The horses added a charm that you will not experience anywhere else.
Mrs Smith February 2019
A really great place to stay and relax. Perfect for access to the beautiful Quantocks, and within easy reach of so many wonderful places in Somerset. But also just as ideal to relax in the well-equipped lodge, enjoying the fabulous views and the comfort of the cottage. Perfect for serious foodie self-catering as well as within easy reach of good gastro pubs. Set up for comfort and a little bit of luxury as well as the practicalities of an active stay in the beautiful, if sometimes wet and muddy, Somerset area - certainly a place to return to ... many times.
Ms Fearnhamm December 2018
fantastic location. wonderful views from the deck. watching the ponies coming down the hill into the stables every morning was a joy. great walking on the doorstep and a local pub serving great food. what more could you ask.
Mrs Wehnert July 2018

Lovely comfortable beds and great outside areas. Great views from the balcony and lots of walks nearby. Although we did not go for the trekking it was quite a sight to watch the horses being brought down from their field to their stables each morning.
Mrs Lane May 2018
A lovely, comfortable and well equipped lodge in a perfect setting. Three generations of our family and we all spent a very enjoyable week here. Plenty to see and do even if you don't horse ride, although two of our party did and had a wonderful time. Very helpful and friendly owners who left a lovely home-made cake and a bottle of wine and milk in the fridge for us. Fabulous views from the balcony and it was lovely to see the horses parading down from the fields first thing in the morning to the stables. We hope to make a return visit!
Mrs Candler March 2018
Lovely relaxing stay with wonderful views and the horses coming in and out an added bonus. We were due to arrive the day following heavy snow fall but good communication with Gill and lots of effort on her part clearing the drive and yard, allowed us to push forward a couple of days and still enjoy our break.
Mr Lort November 2017
Stunning views Able to walk to a couple of great pub restaurants one just a minute walk the other 45 minutes, Lovely to watch the horses trot down from the fields into the yard every day. Lovely walk from the property to the highest point in the Quantocks

A beautiful place to stay - lovely spaces and decor, spotlessly clean and very well equipped - and in a stunning location with far-reaching views. Our host was friendly and provided an exellent "welcome" hamper, with milk, bread ,butter ,eggs, marmalade, wine. My granddaughter enjoyed the pony trekking and we all enjoyed watching the horses come down to the stables in the morning and going back on to the hills in the evening. All very relaxing and comfortable!

We cannot speak too highly of this property. It is beautifully presented and every care has been taken to provide very high quality holiday accommodation. The owners of the property are to be congratulated for their excellent care and attention to detail. Nothing was too much trouble for them to ensure that our stay was as enjoyable as it could possibly be.

The property is absolutely beautiful and the owners were wonderful. The view from the balcony is second to none. Dave and Gill couldn't have been more accommodating to ensure our trip was the best it could be. They have great facilities making it feel a real home away from home when you get back after a day walking or riding. Wonderful place to stay we'll definitely return.
