This beautiful cottage was the home of the Dorset novelist, Thomas Hardy and is one of a number of places to visit near Dorchester, that are connected to the author.

The Old School Gables is a lovely cottage in a quiet village setting and although next door to the pub car park this was never a problem. There is plenty of parking right by the front door so unloading/packing is as easy as it can be. Everything you might need for a week or two stay is present and correct, the kitchen/dining area is good for 4 while the lounge is a decent size and comfortable. Both bedrooms have sloping ceilings and are not huge so a little care might be needed getting around either bed especially at night but we did not find this to be a significant issue. All in all a very pleasant cottage to spend time in and recommended. The owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful....

We enjoyed our stay ,with Lyme Rigis and the town of Bridport a short drive away ,westbay next to Bridport is a must to visit with long beautiful beaches and a lovely harbour to wander round ....
