Mr Hughes July 2023
Another wonderful holiday at Kernel's Barn, Colin and Sally are great hosts, our daughter was able to help with feeding the chickens and egg collecting, the highlight of her stay. The house was clean and comfortable, a peaceful and relaxing location within easy reach to Portreath and Porthtowan.
Mrs Holden June 2023
We have just returned from a 5 day stay at Kernels Barn. It was lovely the barn is beautiful and absolutely spotless. The hosts had left a cream tea for us in the fridge which was a lovely surprise and we had the use of a lovely garden at the property. The hosts Colin and Sally were very friendly and we enjoyed a visit to see Colin’s prize heifer Nectarine. The barn is in beautiful countryside but only minutes away from 2 beaches and places to eat. I would highly recommend the truly charming property and will definitely visit again. Thank you.
mr debourde May 2023
We've stayed in many places in Cornwall and this one exceeded expectations and people often say in reviews that they'll be back but this on this one we actually mean it. The cottage is comfortable and superbly situated allowing us to leave the car and take walks to either Portreath Beach and Porthtowan. Colin and Sally are extremely friendly and helpful. We hope to return next year and fully expect to see Colin's rosettes on the gate from showing his prize 'cow'
Mr Moffat September 2022
Lovely, peaceful location. Comfy beds. We loved having the half stable door open. South West Coast path a short ride away with fabulous beaches and tin mines. Minack Theatre was a gem too.

A lovely cottage in an idyllic position with plenty of your own space . A good area for daily trips .You will need a sat nav !!
Mrs Shields May 2022
We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The barn was perfect for the 3 of us and had everything you could need. Flowers, cream tea, milk and biscuits on arrival is always appreciated.
It was a perfectly located spot for easy access to amenities, the coastal path and the beach.
A quite and peaceful location with a wonderful sunny garden and patio.
We had a fabulous break.
Mr Sargent May 2022
Beautiful property in a lovely setting. The owners were very kind and helpful. Our son is currently using a wheelchair and Colin, the owner, built a ramp so we could get our son in and out of the property, this was exceptionally kind.
Mrs Forecast April 2022
An absolutely perfect holiday. The location is fantastic - so close to Porthtowan and Portreath beaches both of which are lovely with rock pools, tidal pools and surfing. Clean, well equipped, cosy cottage that exceeded our expectations in terms of comfort (lovely beds, bedding, towels etc). Loved the cosy log burner. Colin is a lovely host - he took us to see the cows in his truck and let the children help feed the hens and collect eggs. Their dogs were so well behaved - great with our young children but didn’t bother us. We’d love to visit again.
Mrs James October 2021
Great place and lovely hosts. Easy access to everywhere. Everything you need in the cottage, like home from home
Mrs Parker May 2021
Thank-you for a lovely holiday. Very comfortable clean cottage. Friendly helpful owners. Our 2 year old enjoyed meeting the farm animals. 5 minute drive to sandy Porthtowan beach with good cafe, ice cream shop, bar and chippy.
Mrs Watkins April 2021
Fabulous Fabulous Fabulous! Location was perfect, hosts welcoming and cottage was perfect. We will be back!

Mrs Pendlebury September 2020
Kernels Barn is a lovely base to explore Cornwall. It is clean, comfortable and very well equipped and the owners Sally and Brian are lovely, very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely stay here again.
Mr Gildersleeve August 2020
There is so much we could say about this lovely holiday home and surroundings, but we hesitate to say too much in case this hidden treasure becomes too popular for when we book again and again! The perfect Cornwall holiday home with the many benefits of being tucked away on a small, inland farm but very close to lovely beaches. We had a very special and memorable holiday. Thank you
Mr Faulkner August 2020
Lovely character cottage which was clean and well furnished and equipped. Good location within easy driving distance of Portreath and Porthtowan. Helpful and friendly hosts.
Mr Rolmanis August 2020
Lovely accommodation, everything we expected and more. 5 year old loves staying on the farm but being close to the beach!
Mr Banyard July 2020
Lovely comfortable cottage, our daughter loved meeting the farm animals, cats and dogs
Ms Marshall February 2020
Highly recommended Kernel's Barn is very well located and well thought out. The owners are very pleasant and hospitable, and the chickens are very well kept!
Mr Ainscow September 2019
It would be difficult to find a more relaxing cottage. We have stayed in several cottages that were situated on farms and this is amongst the best of them. Colin & Sally should be very proud of what they do to enable people to enjoy their holiday.
Mr. Wolbeck August 2019
The owner are lovely, helpful and nice people!
Mrs Packwood August 2018
Lovely cottage on a lovely farm. We were welcomed and our daughter was introduced to the animals. A perfect property for a family with a small child and possibly an under 6 month old too!
Mr Davies August 2018
We had a fantastic stay at Kernel's Barn. The cottage is clean, well maintained and comfortable and we found it perfect for us (2 adults and teenage son). This area of Cornwall is beautiful with stunning beaches and headland walks within a five minute drive. Slightly further (10 mins) is the fantastic Gwithian beach which we returned to a few times in our quest to improve our surfing skills. This part of Cornwall is quieter than some of its noisy neighbours, but there is still so much to do. Would definitely recommend.
Mrs Ashfield August 2018
Lovely, well equipped & comfortable cottage. Quiet but excellent location for exploring southern Cornwall. Plenty to do in vicinity & great beaches nearby, especially Chapel Porth.
Mr Hughes July 2018
A very warm welcome and a great cottage, both Colin and Sally were wonderful hosts. Our 2 yr old really enjoyed meeting the dogs, cat and hens; and the short trip to meet the cows also brought great delight. The cottage was clean and comfortable, with all the facilities and amenities close by you would need for a pleasant stay. As a bonus there is an eclectic range of novels from Danielle Steel to Charles Bukowski, along with current OS maps of the surrounding area, which was really useful. The Cottage is in a peaceful location and within 5 minutes of both Portreath and Porthtowan and 10 min from Chapel Porth, our favourite beach. We look forward to our next visit.
Mr Welch June 2018
Wonderful location if you are looking to explore the north coast. Perfect for a young family as the garden was a great size to play in after a day at the beach. The owners are so pleasant and couldn’t do enough for us. Overall I would definitely stay here again and we are even considering renting both cottages next time so our parents can join us.
Mrs Godfrey May 2018
What a wonderful place to stay! Location was perfect as we were close to so many places we wanted to visit. Cottage is fantastic and in such relaxing surroundings. The owners were very welcoming and we loved the greetings we got from Lucy and co every time we returned from a day out. Would highly recommend.
Mr Wright October 2017
Cosy cottage, clean, comfortable and well equipped. We were on a weeks surfing holiday and ideally placed for good breaks at Fistral or Gwithian. Tried Portreath and Porthtowan but either totally blown or dumping. If your surfing Gwithian near the lighthouse watch out for the rip.
Nice to come home to a warm homestead every night and being greeted by two amazingly friendly dogs made us very happy. Sally is lovely, not in your face like some owners but said hi and there if you need her.
Mrs Woodman September 2017
Owners very friendly
Mrs Schütze August 2017
Comfortable and cozy cottage, very clean and quiet which is perfect located for discovering Cornwall. Two wonderful beaches reachable in 5 minutes by car, perfect for swimming, bodyboarding and surfing. St. Ives, Falmouth, Perranporth and Newquay are reachable within 30-40 minutes. The owner of the cottage are really nice, sympathetic and always helpful. We can recommend the cottage.
Miss Green May 2017
Beautiful, spotless and well maintained. Everything included that you will possibly need for a lovely comfortable stay.
Peaceful countryside location but close to beaches and main routes to explore Cornwall.
Great hosts make you feel very welcome along with their friendly animals.
Couldn't find fault with a thing (and trust me when I say that I am fussy haha)...... Loved it!!
Miss Cookson May 2017
Wonderful holiday, relaxed, great area Deffo reccomend
Mr Bird October 2016
it would be a help to have a grip bar on the wall by the shower
Miss Kirkham August 2016
Brilliantly located for a base, Colin & Sally were full of knowledge & chatty without being intrusive, a lovely cream tea was left for us on arrival, a fabulous holiday.
Mrs Waight July 2016
The Barn is idealy situated for visiting the beach and exploring large parts of Cornwall. It is clean and well equipped and the owners are very friendly. We particularly enjoyed all the animals on the farm. Lovely patio area also.
Mrs Allanson June 2016
Beautiful cottage in quiet surroundings. Loved the doggy welcoming committee every time we came back to the cottage.
Mr Bramwell April 2016
Kernel's barn is a lovely place to stay. The hosts could not be more welcoming, neither could the canine welcome from Lucy & co. The location on the coast to coast trail was perfect for us as cyclists. Being close to the north coast gave many opportunities for walking and enjoying the many eateries around at Portreath and Porthtowan. We highly recommend staying here, it has everything you could want for a relaxing stay and is wonderfully private whilst still being just off the beaten track.
Mrs Glover September 2015
Fantastic barn conversion. Really good weather and building was warm without any heating (most disappointing as we really wanted to use the log burner!) very friendly owners and animals. Would highly recommend.
Mr Edkins August 2015
Excellent location, perfect hosts.
Mrs Tyson August 2015
Kernal's Barn was perfect. The Barn was so very clean and well equipped. There is nothing to find fault with. The owners where very kind and friendly. They where very kind to my sons and showed them all around the farm, much to my younger sons delight he got to name the two baby calf's that had just been born. We would definitely love to return again.
Miss Haigh August 2015
The perfect place to spend a holiday. Great to come back to after a busy day out with the added bonus of meeting the farm animals.
Mr Hall May 2015
Excellent base for exploring many parts of Cornwall. Two beaches within 15 minutes cycle, and less than an hour's drive to the Lizard. Hosts very friendly and helpful. Cottage clean, well equipped and comfy. Will be back, hopefully with friends staying in the new cottage being built next door.
Mrs Jary August 2014
Sally and Colin were very approachable and friendly but not'in the way' at all. The welcome cream tea was perfect after a 7 hour drive. The cottage is a pleasant surprise and finished to a really high spec. It is ideally situated, so a trip to Falmouth is 1/2 hour away and Penzance roughly 40 mins. The local beach at Portowan, approx 5 mins drive away, is perfect and 30 seconds from the car park so easily accessible when you arrive there too.
The children loved Lucy the dog and the chickens on the farm.
We had everything we needed for a relaxing family break. Thank you.
Mr Sunter April 2014
nice surprise on arrival of scones and cream and also milk tea and coffee all left as a welcome pack
Mr Bird March 2014
We found the position to be well suited for a holiday on Cornwall`s wonderful Atlantic Coast
Mrs Townend August 2013
I would happily recommend Kernel's Barn as a peaceful retreat which is tucked away up country lanes, but close enough to beaches and the A30 to be within striking distance of many of Cornwall's attractions.
It is a very well equipped and comfortable property. We particularly liked the wood-burning stove (once we had got the hang of it!), and although it is situated fairly close to the owner's property, we were never really felt as though we were intruding.
There's a variety of friendly farm animals to be encountered, so would be ideal for families with younger children. The owners are very helpful and welcoming and are always ready to give advice on local attractions, good places to eat, etc.
On the whole, a pleasant place to stay if you want to relax and unwind, or alternatively, to use as a base for cycling, walking or surfing.
Mrs Lenoire-Payne August 2013
Kernel's barn is the most perfect holiday cottage, close to two surf beaches. The owners are very helpful and the animals are great. Be prepared to get loved by Lucy the loveliest Rottweiler
Mrs Higgins July 2013
Kernels barn is a stunning, well equipped cottage in beautiful surroundings. The owners are so friendly and kind and really helped make our stay very special. We took our 5 year old boy who was made to feel very welcome SMS who has taken some treasured memories away with him. We will definitely recommend the property we were very impressed with everything.
Mrs Anders July 2013
The barn was so perfect for us. It has been renovated so well and is clean and extremely well stocked. It is in a great location, close to some great beaches, woods and gardens. In addition the property is really well situated to many attractions for children such as paradise park, lappa valley steam train and the seal sanctuary, to name just a few. the beaches are also very close and very clean with lifeguards on all of them. The owners were excellent, so welcoming and informative. We have a very inquisitive four year old and they were so accepting of her and she learned a lot about the animals, being allowed to help feed them all. We look forward to going back there as it is a perfect holiday property. We would definitely recommend the barn to anyone.
Mr Williams June 2013
The Cottage was just what was required. The owners were very helpful and friendly as were the two dogs particularly Lucy.
Mrs Dietschmann May 2013
Really lovely property so clean and comfortable, had everything you needed. Great location, we were met by very friendly owner and even a cream tea, can't wait to go back.
Mrs Henderson May 2013
An outstanding cottage, really comfortable and furnished to a really high standard. The kitchen had everything you could need if you are keen on cooking. The cottage is absolutely immaculately clean. The location is perfect for a really quiet couple of weeks in Cornwall - with easy access to great cycle routes (+ bike hire if needed), great beaches and all the cream teas you can eat.
Ms Darbyshire April 2013
A lovely, spacious cottage with all modern amenities set in a peaceful location off-the beaten track but very close to shops and beach.
Miss Craven March 2013
Kernels Barn is a fabulous barn conversion transformed by the owners Collin and Sally. We had a very comfortable stay and were welcomed by the best cream tea. We are keen walkers and the location was perfect to travel to the north coast daily and walk the coastal path.
