Firstly I would like to say we enjoyed our week at Old Quay. It was very relaxing and the weather was kind. Always a bonus. The approach is not the best as has been said and I doubt much can be done about that. However, Old Quay is the destination and that can be improved. There are lovely slate steps to the front door. The meter boxes on the wall would benefit from a coat of paint. Quite easy. The are of the front door could be transformed by staying the handrails up to and around the porch area. Also the front door. There is a pot with a not too happy plant. It could look so lovely and immediately invite people in. Similarly the slate terrace on the river side of the cottage needs a spruce up. The hand rail on the steps to the deck needs repair and wood stain. The two benches on the deck need to be stained too. All the wood will deteriorate if not cared for. Then a small job becomes a big job. The cottage is very different to any property we have ever stayed in and we holiday five/six times a year. The cottage seems to be a time capsule of someone’s life and memories. Namely the owner Patricia. I read about this in the cottage and was fascinated by the paintings and photos and some of the memorabilia. The furniture is dated, some antiques and it’s like visiting Granny forty years ago but with all mod cons. We were comfortable and warm. The WiFi definately needs an upgrade. We didn't experience parking problems but may have been lucky. The cottage is well placed for everything Lostwithiel. Just around the corner is Coffee and Crystals coffee Shop. We called in regularly. Ashley, the owner, is lovely and makes excellent coffee. The Co-op is near. A bakery and antique shop. There are several shops pubs and restaurants. Our favourite is Restormel Kitchen. We eat there every time we visit Lostwithiel. Do book ahead. While at the cottage we visited The Story of Emily at ST Ive near Liskeard. It’s one of the best most interpretive experiences and rates right up there. I don’t want to give to much away. There is the magnificently restored Rectory where Emily was born. The incredible War Rooms and the wonderful South African Restaurant. We have lived in South Africa. The food in the restaurant was authentic and wonderful. Just google the story of emily.com A visit must be booked ahead and paid on arrival. The weather was kind and we loved sitting on the lower deck watching the ducks and river flowing by. In the evening we enjoyed a log fire. No reviews would be complete without mentioning Annie. She is, in every sense of the word, a treasure. Patricia is so lucky to have her take care of Old Quay Cottage. So now for the big question… Would we return? Yes. I am already checking dates and very much hoping Old Quay will looked loved after some needed TLC. Thank you so much Annie....

A hidden gem in a wonderful setting. So relaxing watching the tidal river ebb and flow. Shops, eateries and even the railway station a few minutes walk from the cottage. Lostwithiel is an interesting little town with a beautiful medieval bridge across the River Fowey and it’s so close to many attractions in the area....

The situation of Old Quay Cottage is absolutely lovely, and we were lucky to be able to sit out on the deck and watch the comings and goings on the river (both birds and human). It's very convenient for the town and a great centre for exploring this part of Cornwall. The cottage is well furnished and comfortable, and as there were only two of us a bargain!...

Another enjoyable stay in a Classic Collection cottage.

The cottage is well equiped. Very nice is the water front space, very relaxing. Also easy access to the super market for daily groceries. Located near nice shops and restaurants. Not so nice is the parking space at the back of the cottage. Getting out of the court yard behind the cottage is a real challenge!...
