I have previously rented at least 14 holiday homes from Classic Cottages.All excellent and most worthy of my outstanding praise. Unfortunately there were significant shortfalls in the cleanliness, maintenance and presentation of the apartment. On arrival I was greeted by a used and unclean toilet. Further examples include an unusable shower due to water leakage out of the wall,filthy shower head .Bathroom walls with staining and marks especially in the toilet area. It was evident only superficial cleaning had occurred. A sofa badly stained, unclean and shabby. Further sofas tired and uncomfortable.Numerous crockery items and kitchenware needed washing before use as greasy and marked, some with remnants of food on. The housekeeper kindly returned to address some issues but I felt the property required a thorough deep clean when not occupied by guests. Cleanliness is a basic necessity in a holiday home. I found it tired, dated and not to the required standard. We were informed 30 minutes before arrival that the pool was unavailable. We arrived to find the pool was a building site with ongoing refurbishment including being relined and retiling work, no where near completion. We should have been informed and given the choice of arrival or not as we had specifically booked to use the pool as a treat for our grandchildren’s birthday.Bitterly disappointed. Redeeming features are the property is spacious and plenty of room for the children to play with their birthday toys. It was warm. The kitchen and granite worktops are good quality but finding many pieces of kitchenware unclean and requiring washing let it down. The garden is spectacular and a credit to the gardeners. Idyllic location with Fowey and beach/ coast within walking distance. Excellent cafes , shops etc. I strongly believe holiday homes being let to the general public should be in excellent order be it maintenance or cleanliness. This property fell far short of that and the Classic Cottages team were exemplary in obtaining just compensation for our ruined holiday. Perhaps due to the conversations we have had with Classic Cottages measures will be put in place to rectify the problems so future bookings do not experience this. ...

We are so sorry you found concerns with the cleanliness, and we can appreciate how upsetting this was at the start of your holiday when you were settling in to your holiday home. We were pleased the housekeeper was able to assist with straight away to make sure you were able to settle in and enjoy this quality apartment. Unfortunately, the contractors did let the owners down with an unplanned delay in completion of the swimming pool and we were so sorry that we were unable to give more notice so you would have been able to change your plans. We do hope that our assistance during your stay and the support from the owner went some way to compensate for the lack of swimming pool although we do appreciate how this must have upset your plans for your granddaughter’s birthday. We’re delighted you found the location idyllic and within walking distance of excellent cafes and shops. You will be pleased to hear that the indoor, heated, saltwater swimming pool with retractable walls and roof enabling it to be open-air in hot weather is fully in use after the recent upgrade. The Garden Apartment lives up to the name by having the loveliest of grounds which are maintained to a very high standard making a little haven of green space close to the centre of Fowey and the waterfront.
